Street Fighter IV on the Wii? It's a possiblity, says SFIV producer photo

Ever since I got my hands on Street Fighter IV, I've been longing to have a copy here in my home. And thanks to the announcement of the upcoming Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions, my dream will one day be a reality. But what about the Wii owners? Don't give up hope yet, waggle warriors!

"The more people that ask about it, the more likely we are to move in that direction," said producer Yoshinori Ono in an interview with Siliconera. "The very existence of Street Fighter IV was based on people asking about it for so long. If we get a lot of requests, it will be something we will think about. It might be difficult to reproduce the graphics exactly as they are, but the gameplay should be completely intact. It’s something we can think about."

Street Fighter IV is a great looking game, but the last few times I've played it, I was too busy trying to stay alive to admire the flashy graphics. If you ask me, I think it could work on the Wii, provided that they leave out the waggle. A Classic Controller would work fine, thank you.

Ars Technica's Ben makes a good point: "Just because something can be done doesn't mean it should be done, and I would hate to see what SFIV looks and plays like after being hacked down for the Wii."

There's no doubt it would be ugly, but looks aren't everything, right?

For me the game already looks ugly.

Also I would always prefer playing it with the Wii classic controller than playing it with a 360 pad.

It would be a shame to see the game without the cool graphics, but if online was done well, maybe they could just get a different SF game just not necessarily 4. It could use sprite graphics like Megaman 9. I could see it work pretty well on Wiiware. Those Hori sticks are a little pricey though. =(

If classic controller works, so should Gamecube controller

I'd be okay with sprites too.

I thought that Nintendo can no longer sell the classic and gamecube controllers because they got sued over the analog stick patent.

Maybe Ars Technica's Ben is a cynical douchebag. If they can manage to make the game play the same, I don't see why it shouldn't be done.

I can easily imagine a respectable version of SFIV for the Wii, especially since Capcom is one of the few publishers who have actually done right by their Wii audience. Only problem would be that you'd HAVE to have a Classic controller or fighting stick to play it properly.

After Dead Rising, don't be surprised if it happens.

Why do Wii fanboys want everything on Wii? I'd much rather see Capcom put out Zack and Wiki 2 than a dumbed down, waggletastic Street Fighter.

Because we want to have access to more games? I have a gaming PC, so I don't care much either way. I'll prolly get SF4 for the PC. However, I think its funny that some people are COMPLAINING about games getting ported to the Wii.

The Wii could handle a version of SF4 that would look very similar to the mainstream version. I guarantee it. I mean, it might be a downgraded port of sorts, but that doesn't mean the game would be horrible to look at.

Also, why would a WiiSF4 be dumbed down or waggletastic? There might be waggle options, but I guarantee you that the classic and GC controllers would be compatible. The classic controller would blow the 360 controls out of the water for a game like this.

"Why do Wii fanboys want everything on Wii?"

because they fucking bought a $250 system, and they want some games for it too.

whoever said sprites is a genius. they should port this game using classic SFII graphics with all the new levels and characters. don't even pretend like you wouldn't want to buy that.

As a Street Fighter fanboy, I want SFIV on every console possible. All of the consoles have good arcade sticks available from Hori and the X-Arcade has adapters for PS3 and Wii. There's no reason this cannot be done on Wii as well as the other systems, especially when one considers that the game is going top be less complex than SFIII in order to appeal to more players.

The stupid shit that people say regarding the Wii is hard to swallow in small doses. I'm sure that if all these knobs got together in one place and let their textual diahrea spill out onto the screen all at once, the resulting mess would likely cause cancer.

This shouldn't be a problem at all. Great fighting games of the past were always downgraded from the arcades to home console ports. It's no different really, besides, Capcom loves to port unnecessary games to the Wii, like Resident Evil Zero

Calm down. Everyone's saying they'd want no waggle, and Capcom's obviously listening. You don't need the capslock on.

@Dale

There's no doubt it would be ugly, but looks aren't everything, right?

Uh, that's not true. The Wii is capable of better graphics than people seem to think. Look at Smash Bros.

As for the SFIV Wii thing, as long as the GameCube or Classic Controller is supported, I'd love to see how it'd work. Hell, I'd rather use the GameCube d-pad than the 360 d-pad for a fighter, and that's really saying something.

They should pull a megaman 9 and do sprites. I don't think it would look "ugly" on the Wii in 3D, I just want a main entry SF to have sprites again.

Dammit, if you think the Wii's graphics are crap, then actually put some effort into making it look good than just blowing it off. The PS2 was the most underpowered system of the last console cycle, but by the end of its lifetime, the games still looked pretty because the developers actually tried to push the graphical limits.

It's like how developers bitch that there's no good games out for the Wii, then make a half-assed port for it. If you don't like where the system is going DO SOMETHING TO CHANGE IT.

Remember the debate over bringing Bionic Commando to the Wii? I would really like to see SFIV for the Wii, but if everyone's resigned to the fact that the Wii version will just be a shitty, watered-down shadow of its former glory, then Capcom isn't going to put any effort into making it worth buying. If you don't like where the system is going, DO SOMETHING TO CHANGE IT.

If they do it well on the Wii, that'd be great, but I may still just get it for the 360 anyway. I don't know... we'll see how it goes.

...

...

Oh wait, I mean how dare you fuckers talk shit about the Wii!!! The Wii is God!!! (Whew, almost lost some street cred as an official card-carrying Nintendo Fanboyâ„¢ there.)

But seriously though, yeah, this Ben guy from Ars Technica can go suck a cock. That was completely uncalled for.

@Slick Icarus

Why do Wii fanboys want everything on Wii?

The same reason that 360 "fanboys" want everything for the 360 and PS3 "fanboys" want everything for the PS3, perhaps? Why does it make you a fanboy to want games for your console? If anything, it's rather fanboy-ish and retarded to want games to not appear on a console.

@All the "We don't want waggle" guys

Who cares if they include support for it, as long as they also provide support for the other controllers? Look at Mortal Kombat Armageddon. It supported the Wiimote (and rather well, I might add, at least in my opinion anyway, YMMV), but they also provided support for the classic controller and the Game Cube controller as well, for those of you cursed with chronic waggle-phobia. If they can include support in SFIV for the Wiimote, and can do it well, then why the hell should they not, just because you may not want it?
