After having spent a decent amount of time with Street Fighter IV at CAPTIVATE last week, I must say: "Do want." That said, the lack of arcades in the United States is going to make it difficult for me to find places to "put up my quarter."

So the home versions of the game (for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC) are the only way I'm going to get my fix. It's too bad it doesn't look like that will be happening this year. According to a recent listing found on GameStop's point-of-sale (image attached), Street Fighter IV is tentatively scheduled for a February 3, 2009 ship date. Yes, that's next year.

Speaking to him at CAPTIVATE in Las Vegas, producer Yoshinori Ono told us that his team would begin working on the home ports as soon as the arcade game was complete. As he put it "they wouldn't be getting vacation," and they'd be trying to get the game done as quickly as they could.

While GameStop doesn't think slave driver Ono-san will have it done for North America before the holiday, there's always a chance. Retail release dates have been wrong in the past, haven't they?

I don't mind this. It just leaves some of the sweeter games til next year. Roll on xmas so I can sample some Gears of War 2. I'm sure that and Fallout 3 will be taking up much of our time.

Whilst of course I'd want it earlier it's nice to see companies realising that releasing games in the holiday season ain't always a great idea. The dream of no summer games drought is one I hope I live to see.

Do want! However if they were to rush it and totally fuck it up, that would suck. I'll wait till they are ready to release it. I mean hey, I've been waiting for Starcraft 2 for 10 years! Street Fighter 4 is coming out earlier than I expected!

They do have to make money of the arcade release first.

Give me Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix before the end of the summer, and we’ll call it even.

This has never been more appropriate...

But seriously, as long as they use the time to add more characters and make sure the net code is fine and stuff, I'm ok with it. I'd loooove to have it by Christmas though.

It's probably better this way. The arcades should get the advantage here so that they might have a chance to reclaim ground. If they came out on the consoles at the same time it could defeat the purpose.

I fucking LOVE arcades and I wish more industry types supported them. Whenever you see tours of a lot of game studios they have arcade machines set up, so I don't know why arcades don't get more love.
Also: Is the PC version delayed to February along with the console versions? The Arcade machine is basically a PC in a cabinet with a special controller after all, it runs Windows and has upgradable hardware and everything, so the PC version is essentially DONE already.

Good to hear that they are spending a good amount of time on getting this up and running on the home front. I just hope there is enough extras to make me look away from Virtua Fighter 5 and possibly Soul Calibur.

Touche! I gave up on Duke Nukem a long time ago. I am still hoping for a new battletoads game! It's been FAR too long.

As a couple people have already said, I'm fine with it. Hell, I could wait longer simply because I think the arcades need time to make their money back on the investment in the game.

Where I live we missed out on Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection in arcades because Namco released Tekken 5 on consoles so soon after the arcade version that everyone stopped playing at the arcade and the owner saw no reason to invest in an upgrade when it would probably come out in 6 months tops

Jetsetlemming: No because it's not a simple port, they are adding online play as well as 4 new characters to the home versions.

Yeah, but usually because the game is delayed further.
