Capcom has beamed us a couple of announcements, with the biggest being the official console announcement for Street Fighter IV. Both the PS3 and 360 versions were pretty much a given, but the PC one took us by surprise. Well, not really; we've been hearing rumors about a PC version for awhile now. I guess actually seeing the words "Windows-based PC" direct from Capcom made it real.
The other announcement lets us know that Lost Planet: Extreme Condition COLONIES EDITION has shipped to retailers. This also concerns PC gamers, as this title is a PC/console cross-platform affair. This new version also brings new multiplayer modes, weapons, and characters to the table.
What do you think about all of this PC business? I like the idea of cross-platform, but will fighting fans (MUGEN doesn't count) pick a PC over consoles? Do you think there will be cross-platform online gaming for SFIV?
Hit the jump for some of the interoffice comments on this announcement.
Nick Chester: While I have a moment, can I please add: PC? Who in the fuck is going to play Street Fighter IV on the God damned PC? I mean, COME ON. Really?
Dale North: My mom. That is, if the Street Fighter cast sits down at an online 1-2 Limit poker game.
Samit Sarkar: Yeah, it certainly seems like a waste of development resources. If anything, people will just plug their 360 controllers into their computers' USB ports. And then they'll die over and over again, because that D-pad sucks so much.
Ken Masters: *flips hair*
The most epic ballsack annihilation of all time.
Ballsackyuken.
Wait...what? Really? I thought they stopped making games for the Xbox.
Edit that or a little kitten will be runned over by a subway
Wait...what? Really? An entire subway? The platform, tunnel, tracks, and all? Or do you mean the sandwich shop?
FULL OF COUNTRY GOODNESS AND GREEN PEANESS.
Yeah, not only the train, isn't that great?
GGPO? Melty Blood? MAME?
Street Fighter IV on PC was a genius move. Now let's see if they have the balls to put Super Turbo HD on PC as well.
lol... it's even better raw!
And yes, PC is a fighting game system, but as usual, none of you know anything about what's on PC.
There's a very big PC fighting game market, you plebeians. Turns out people love free online play that just works and isn't tied into some stupid ass pay service! And customizing controls and content and mods! And playing a game on a platform they've already got so fuck it why not!
Unless there's something we don't know about SF IV ...
I'm sure if we had a choice with all doujin games to go console, i'm sure most would go for it. But since games like Eternal Fighter Zero and Immaterial and Missing Power are on PC, we're kinda stuck with it.
Look at Melty Blood. It got popular enough to hit the Arcades and then the PS2. Akatsuki Blitzkampf is another rising PC to Arcade game. I'd figure most who have a doujin fighter on their PC only play because it's on PC.
Unless Capcom expect to put some custom stuff on the PC version, I can't see many sales on it.
First off, who actually owns Melty Blood for pc? I bet the people who actually buy it, and don't download a pirated copy is a small percentage. M.U.G.E.N.? Give me a break!! It's a free program! And MAME, wow, just wow. You're going to compare SF4's release on PC to illegal emulation? Those are EXACTLY why it's a stupid idea for Capcom to release the game on PC. Because only 3 people will pay for it.
I say the same thing about people Who play "call of duty 4" and "Bioshock" "ornage box" or any other first person shooter on xbox 360 or ps3.
Who would want to play sucky ports of good PC games on there consoles with sucky visuals and controls?!
But hey at least the PC has arcade pads you can buy wher you cant use a mouse and keybaord On bioshock or call of duty 4 or any other first person shooter on xbox 360 (and most ps3)... OH snap!
are you aware of what Most fancy home built arcade cabinets use to make there pretty retro graphics fly across the screen?
<<<<hint it's a windows/linux PC hooked up to a real arcade joy stick you can use to play street fighter 4 with.>>>>>>
I made one of these cabients for fun lots of people do.
With the PC version of street fighter 4 you can play it with something like this.
http://users.bigpond.net.au/paj/images/cabinet_logo.jpg
and I am going to do that and buy the xbox 360 port if needed I doubt I want it though I can play it on my mame cabinet with the PC inside it.;
Fighter in Arcade Cabinets >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> All.
I win.
If piracy prevails, beat em ups will never find their footing on PCs, a place where its always been technically possible to do them justice, for a while now. More so with the advent of a standard control pad of the 360 being supported (or keys if you want them) for PC. I just hope Capcom protect their games somehow to lift sales.
The PC needs more variety in its games, as this will always be the barrier for many gamers. I can imagine my PC hooked up to a huge HDTV, to play this, it would be epic. I love my 360 and achievement points more though. If the PC version has achievements and headset support on Live, those would be positive steps too.
Are they just waiting to be raped by pirates?

there is 0 work for capcom and for you throw that in your PC powered MAME HDTV arcade cabinets are you will have arcade perfection your very own street fighter 4 arcade machine.
The specs are nothing it's all dirt cheep weak PC hardware. and there you go these will be the PC reqirements to run the game on high.
If this picks expect to see every type of fricking fighting game there could ever be created. We could possibly get Master Chief vs Metroid vs Solid Snake vs Sam Fisher vs a Teletubby if you get what i'm saying.
Or it could just turn out to be a completely overlooked game that no one plays on PC.
all it will take is one arcade owner little time to take the arcade hardware that is already running off a PC mod it hack and make throw it up on the internet for all PC to use and all the street fighter 4 arcade machines.
it will not be hard to do anything you want with the frickin whole arcade machine and the game files on it to pirate hack and mod them all over the place.
that is weather it comes out on the PC or not capcom is smart enough to just throw it out and let people have the option to buy it it's still free money.
Would be nice to see more fighting games on PC, officially.
That is all.
However Capcom's track record with ports to PC concern me. RE4 anyone??
Sort of like an FPS on a console.
