Street Fighter III HD Remix probably not going to happen photo
  share: Twitter Facebook Reddit Digg
filed under: #Fighting Games

The likelihood of Capcom releasing an HD Remix version of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike isn’t good. In response to a user question about a retail remake of the game, Capcom’s Chris Svennson said it would be “somewhat unlikely” that we’ll see it. He cited technical challenges and lessons learned while creating Street Fighter II Turbo Blueberry Pie HD Remix as the reasons.

“An HD Remix on SF3 would be a challenge in and of itself given the number of frames of animation and effects that would have to be redone, especially in light of what we learned on SSF2THDR,” Svennson said. “As such, the very nature of the project you're suggesting is somewhat unlikely.”

But wait, we live in a world full of possibilities: one second you’re hoping to win two dollars from a scratch-off lottery ticket. The next, you’re buying cocaine and fish eggs by the pound. Or, in this case, remaking another Street Fighter game because the last one starting selling like hotcakes because Vin Diesel endorsed it on Oprah.

“But if it were to happen, I would suspect a retail release would also be unlikely given our current strategy for Remixes.”

So, there you go. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike HD Remix could happen, but it doesn’t seem like Capcom is seriously considering it yet. And good for them: typing “SFIII3HDR” is tougher than it looks.

well... juste give it to me without the remix...

i spend so much time mastering blocking in street fighter 3 that i can't control myself in street 4 and keep jumping forward wich mean loosing every time...

bring back street 3 with online i wan't to win again.

"i spend so much time mastering blocking in street fighter 3..."

Um...you mean parrying? Certainly sounds like you sure 'mastered' it.

@Chronic Logic: I swear to god Chronic, straight to the moon!

@benus, i had the same problem until i stopped playing SF3 (for that reason and also after getting my ass handed to me in GGPO) and played SFIV exclusively.

Not really sure thay SFIII needs an HD remix, it's already pretty good looking. Another release with online play would be fine with me.

There'd be too much shit to change.

Parrying would have to be fixed so it can't be abused.

Yun, Chun, Dudley, and Ken would have to be toned down a lot and Hugo, Q, Sean, and Necro would have to be boosted.

On top of redrawing everything. And really, I don't want 3s redrawn. It's still one of the most beautiful and fluid 2D fighters ever.

And I think it, as well as the other street fighters, are way better than Street Fighter 4 ever will be.

I dont know why everyone wants HD remixes so bad.

Capcom just rereleasing this on PSN and XBLA would be fine just like there doing with MvC2.

Just tweak it here and there add online and your good.

No need for the graphic upgrades.
Sprites might not look so good on HD now but there not awful

capcom doesn't equalize their fighting games. If they did than people who play street fighter online would choose someone other than, Ken, Ryu, Akuma, Sagat, or Gouken.

(Agrees with everybody above who has mentioned that an HD upgrade isn't necessary (just give us the option of a smooth filter like MVC2) and what the game really needs is a rebalance anyway)

I agree also that it's not necessary if they can manage a proper smooth and upscale for people with HD tvs. I'd love to have it in any case. Although I think I could get behind some HD Poison XD mm.. delicious!

This probably holds true to SFA3 also since Capcom is doing the PSOne version on PSN. Capcom is a lazy bunch of fucks so they won't bother with it if they already have a version out. But I'd pay $15 for SF3:3S and SFA3 with online, possibly $20 if rebalanced (and all the extra shit from the later ports like Guile, Yun etc from the PSP version and the extra -isms from PSTwo SFA:A) like they both need.

I love the idea that Capcom is "lazy" because they don't want to re-release every (unmarketable) game under the sun. Sheesh.
Looptron's Avatar
Looptron at 06/29/2009 14:22
@Steel Brotha They might play those characters but that's because they go straight to the tier lists and don't get any better. They aren't winning tournaments. A Dhalsim won the SF4 Japanese national tournament, at Rumble in the Tundra (Buffalo tournament that just happened), a Seth won, at Devastation Justin Wong's Rufus/Abel won. So people need to quit complaining about the balance of the game and start complaining about the player base.

Also, Gouken and Ken are garbage in this game. They don't tip the balance at all because both are just straight trash compared to Sagat and others. You know how the list goes?

Sagat, C. Viper, Akuma, Ryu, Balrog and/or M. Bison. That's how it goes. But Akuma and Viper are coming close to winning tournaments while Hondas, Blankas, Chun-li's, and even some El Fuertes are winning more than the "Furious 5"

@Looptron In america they are losing. However in japan the furious 5 are big daigo uses ryu, mago sagat, changkpo(sp? ryu if you see some vids of top japanese play they use spacing and footsies a lot more than over here.

I'd love if they re-released this game simply with an emphasis on balancing the roster and just left the art alone.

SF3:3S is probably my favorite 2D fighter of all time but I can't hide the fact that it's unbalanaced as fuck.

SF4 is like a equality-fest compared to SF3. Despite SF4 having 5 or so MORE characters than SF3:3S, it has HALF the total deviation from top tier to bottom tier on ranking lists.

Crazy.

BALANCE THAT SHIT, CAPCOM and I will buy it with no additional content.

Putting in in HD wouldn't be that important to me. All Capcom/Backbone would need to do is to give all the other stuff that SFIIHDR had. Especially balancing. Remember. Tiers are for Queers.

I think Darkstalkers is a more likely candidate for the HD Remix treatment. Those sprites have been recycled for forever and sorely need an update (if I'm not mistaken, it's the same assets from the first game!).

But that's not to say that I wouldn't like me some more 3rd Strike.

well not everyone goes to tournaments man. Abel winning a tournamt doesn't change how cheap players use only 5 of the 18 fighters. Besides they still they the fighters I mentioned are still the most used on SF4 online. And you bringing up the fact that them allowing Seth (a boss character) winning a tournament only proves my point further. My point was that only certain characters are used because Capcoms fighting games are unbalanced. We'll never see El Fuente win a tournament for this very reason.
