Stranglehold is 'golden' and will be upon us soon photo

Word out of Midway's camp is that Stranglehold has finally gone gold, and will be ready to fill the void of Xbox 360's everywhere come September 5th. While a simultaneous release would have been ideal, PS3 and PC fans will have to wait but just a few more weeks to get in on the action. So why do I care?

I've always had a love affair with the Max Payne games. In turn, I tend to be attracted to other games that resemble it. However, even I was feeling a tad cautious concerning Stranglehold. That is, until I took the demo on Xbox live for a spin. Sliding all around in bullet time-esque fashion got my attention, and I had a blast. Will that feeling last for the duration of an entire game? Time will tell.

Although the graphics didn't take my breath away in the sense that Bioshock did, the demo proved interesting enough to pique my interest further. I just hope that Midway has put that 30-million dollars it infused into the game to good use. Judging by the short peek thus far, I'd say it's reasonable to assume that they've done just that. Still, I can't shake that ever-so-slight nagging feeling that I could be wrong on this one. Here's to hoping that Stranglehold turns out to be much more than a weekend rental. I've got $60 riding on this one.

I loved the Stranglehold demo. I thought the graphics, especially facial features, were sub-par, the writing was terrible and the handling of John Woo felt frighteningly loose -- however, it turned out to be just like Total Overdose, and I fukken loved Total Overdose!

This game gets two Sterling thumbs up from me. I'm eagerly awaiting it.

@Jim Sterling

I thought the graphics weren't as great as I'd like as well. Then I told myself it was because of my shitty TV. Then I reminded myself that Bioshock looked breathtaking on it. Then I reminded myself that I was just playing a demo of Stranglehold, after all. Still awake?

This is the first mulitplatform game I'm getting on the PS3 instead of the 360, purely because I want the movie with it. But the longer I think about it the more I think the only reason I haven't cancelled my preorder for it because I just want the movie.

Next week! Now that I'm done with BioShock it's time for the next big game. After Stranglehold it'll be Eternal Sonata but I probably won't be able to finish it before Halo 3. Good time to be a gamer! :)

I didn't have that much fun with the Stranglehold demo, and I really thought I would. Controls were just a little too loose, and sometimes I ended up doing things I didn't want to. Maybe I'll give it another run, but I don't know.

Speaking of multiplayer, I can't wait to see eight people simultaneously in tequila time and riding on carts. That or everyone leaping forward from different directions.

I played through the demo 5 or 6 times and it was definitely a lot of fun.

I'm debating whether I want to pick up the full game since it might just be the same as the demo for 20 hours, which, though fun for the first few hours, might get stale after a while.

I'll wait for reviews I guess, or give it a rent.

I'm buying it, as I have it pre-ordered. Good times. Good nutbag bullet piercing times.

I'll probably at least rent it, maybe pick it up. The multiplayer just looks like a lot of fun too. I enjoyed the crazy controls, it really made it feel like a John Woo movie.

I like the idea of a John Woo/Chow Yun Fat game in bullet-time, but in the trailer, the frame rate looked a bit dodgy. Tell me if it runs well when its out.

I can't justify buying this game with all of the other great stuff coming out. I thought the demo was alright, nothing I would be super interested in. A rental, perhaps.
