my god O_____O
kinda surprising how back then when this game was released on Xbox only and saw it on G4(Tech Tv i think??) i always wanted this game on PS2.
now it's on PS3 in 60FPS goodness O____O
definitely gonna get this!!!!!!!!! :P
I'm sure it's a good game, but the company has pissed me off too much to try the PS3 version.
The original version perhaps, but this version has yet to be released on PC. Allegedly it soon will - but I suspect at a similar pricing level.
It's also worth mentioning that the original PC port was abysmal.
Also worth mentioning is Klona came out yesterday too. I'm kind of in video game heaven right now.
the resolution of the game is quite good IMO, isn't that the point of HD? I can set this to a widescreen format at hi resolution. what do they do for the HD, increased textures and poly counts?
I was playing it this evening and I didn't see anything badly wrong with it.
sure, I think the coding could be a bit better to improve the framerate, but it's not as bad as the trash ubisoft have been putting out.
If so, that was a 4ish bucks well spent. (Oddbox)
When they say "HD" do they just mean "running in higher resolution and framerate and widescreen" or are they actually improving the art assets? I saw screenshots of the so-called "HD" version of Beyond Good and Evil, and it's basically the same as the PC version but with the addition of widescreen support. The textures etc. were all the same.
Normally HD rereleases are just as you say - simple resolution bumps. Therefore, ordinarily I'd agree with you that picking up the normal PC version would be no different. But in this case I believe, though someone please correct me if I'm wrong, that they've actually bumped up the polys on the models and also included higher quality textures. Again, as to whether that's worth the extra money? Well that's up to the individual but having both options is nice.
As for the original PC port, it was buggy and ran like arse when it came out. At least for it's visual quality anyway. Haven't loaded it up in years, though. Likely to be far more bearable now.
So putting aside ALL nostalgia...is it worth playing NOW?
I was in the same boat. When I got it I wasn't disappointed. Looks and plays fine for me.
Only thing is that when I load the menus they lag. (Though the rest of the game is fine.) That is probably my computer though, unless someone else has the same issue.
I prefer keeping all my purchases on one system, but if a few months pass and it goes on sale on PS3 and still no news on XBLA, I might grab it.
GoG usually does compatibility and bug fixes, so their version may run better than the original release, or the version on Steam. Not having DRM might help, too, as some DRM screws up the game.
I'm not saying 'don't buy the PSN version' but all of these claims of rock-solid framerates are questionable and some of their HD 'upgrades' are downright dumb. (effects changed or removed, no re-balancing, shoddy audio, and so on and so forth)
Just Add Water, as a studio, needs to get their shit together and I don't trust them as far as I can throw them to fix/add things in future patches. (because they've bullshitted their way along on PC)
Ultimately, Lorne Lanning and Oddworld Inhabitants are to blame here for being poor stewards of their IPs.
The points where it became difficult were the points where you were meant to change your style of play, once you figured out how to get through to the next screen it eased up again. Though, I did through a few controller over this game.
I've always been sore that this story was never given a sequel. Never liked the other oddworld games but I absolutely loved this. Replayed the shit out of it. A beautiful, beautiful game.
Assume there's a sony exclusivity deal?
I think they said they would try to get it smaller. I don't know the file size - is it really a big file? Guess I'll Google it
The PC version is listed as 1.5GB on GoG. So if the remake is over 2GB (the size limit) then perhaps they have revamped the graphics.
Hopefully they do port the remake to PC, sounds like the current version is buggy according to everyone :/
