and yeah i felt odd when playing Perfect Dark after getting involved with Valve games. I was like "damn! this controls are weird as hell!"
That Uncharted video was terribly unoriginal. And what was that bit about breaking the cardinal rule of programming? ugh...
I was moderately interested in reliving middle school with the XBLA port of Perfect Dark. After this video I am highly tempted to download it as soon as I get home. You da man Storm.
Zero was a very average game, made me question my memories of playing PD with firends and liking the game.
The game is a remake, or at least so they are saying. Most of the bugs and glitches were re-implemented to not piss off any fanboys.
PD64 had a lot of innovations that made it a great game, such as the gadgets (xray, night vision, bomb/drugspy, vehicle, guided missile, detachable/attachable sentry gun), modes (counter-op could be really intense at times) and the extremely customizable multi-player mode.
The only game I can think of that have had anything near counter-op is L4D, which turned out pretty good.

I do agree that there's a big element of nostalgia in the experience of playing retro games, but like you also point out, Perfect Dark has some awesome features that even modern games don't have. Yeah, COD4 had a few cheats, and those were nice, but they were in no way as plentiful and diverse as the ones in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Also, mission-based levels with an increasing number of objectives based on the difficulty setting was awesome, but I think newer games don't have that feature because of the increased focus on narrative.
