Still playing Metal Gear 3 online? Say goodbye come April 3 ... suckers photo

If you're one of the proud and few still playing Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence online, then you're going to be in for a very rude awakening on April 3 as Konami shuts down the online function of the title. 1UP was able to notice the warning and alert us all that Konami quietly sent an execution date for the game's online functionality. Ouch:

Konami sincerely thanks all of the Subsistence online community for their dedication to the game and support of the Metal Gear Solid series. The Metal Gear online tradition of stealth, action and team play continues on the PSP system with Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops with all-new characters, levels and modes of play - don't miss this incredible evolution of Metal Gear Online. Thank you for the Kojima Productions battle and thanks for the chance to work on that guide. I will miss the game and all of those times.

srysly tho, can we expect this to happen with PSN? After all, with live's centralized servers this should never be a problem, but when devs have to do it on their own this could be an issue.

What the fuck is up with that? I play that game at least 1-2 hours per week. That is so screwed up on their part.

I'm not surpirsed. The community has been getting smaller and smaller since it was released. Still, it was fun as hell.

It is things like this is why xbox live is MUCH better than Sony's system. still with the PS3 Sony leaves it up to the developer or publisher to host servers for any online games. So the developer or publisher may be inclined to shut down the servers if they are inclined to. With xbox Live, once the game is made online, it will forever remain online as long as LIVE still exists. I can only assume that Microsoft won't be shutting off thier LIVE servers until years and years into the future when it won't even matter anymore.

oh, what THE FEEEEUUUCCCK?! seriously... seriously konami...that bad? servers...really that crowded?..the bill, really that much?? huh? you get your feet wet and decide maybe you shouldnt've jumped in?? really? was this lil "experiment" with online capabilities really THAT exclusive??

well let me just say, just like halo (which has been out for ~6 years and still played online via XBC) the true fans of this amazing online game will continue to find ways to play online. I mean honestly, at least give us bots to download or something.

just make us all happy, get out of bed with sony and join the REAL online console service via Xbox Live (cause Kaz Hirai obviously doesnt care about your feelings - you tell them you dont like it in the back but he doesnt care, he has self-esteem problems with the way Stringer treats him, so he'll continue to poke you there till it just slides in)

This is...rather disappointing. I've got MGS3 in my game stack, waiting to be played, and after I played single-player, I was going to jump right on this for a while. Here's hoping for some independent ways to play. Highly disappointing.

Oh I'm sure they can't keep paying those monthly bills so people could play their game online.

The struggle continues Dedicated servers vs peer to peer.

One has better performance but can be shut off anytime a company is tired of supporting it the other takes a hit to performance but has never-ending online play (as long as someone wants to play with you)

I hope this isn't true for Europe. I don't even own the game, have the Snake Eater version. But I've played the beta and thought it one of the best games online for the PS2 just not good enough to buy the game for a second time. Damn, Should have start looking for a used version earlier.

This is why MGS4 needs to be on 360 where we can all appreciate the online and Konami can stop worrying about servers.

I'd like to point out that this game is barely one year old. In addition, what the hell, Konami?

That freaking sucks! I used to play that game online alot but seriously its not the same damn experiance on the PSP!!!! WTF!!! Konami ported MGS2 to the Box with the letter X so they should port it to the box that went 360.......
