Stewie says 'What the deuce?' Family Guy coming to Xbox Live photo
     Television

Microsoft has locked down a deal with 20th Century Fox to release the first two seasons of Family Guy on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and U.S. gamers will be able to download episodes starting Monday of next week. This marks the first deal between Microsoft and Fox as well as the first time Family Guy has been available for donwload, though it looks like we can expect more.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, Fox executive vice president Jamie McCabe told says, "This is our first one. We hope to have other content on there, but right now with the launch of Halo 3 and the launch of the new [fifth] season of Family Guy coming out [on DVD], the timing worked out really well for this one."

Each episode will be available for 160 Microsoft Points ($2) in the United States. Family Guy fans in other territories will just have to buy the (probably cheaper) DVD collections.

Microsoft probably got them for free from Fox on threat of withdrawing their huge campaign donations to the Republican party that they make each year. (PS, not an attack on Microsoft; they gotta play the game.)

What about all the people who already have them on UMD or DVD or the billions of other formats everything comes on these days?

Yeah, no... Maybe if it were iTunes and I didn't already have them ripped and stored on my media server. But locked to my Xbox? mmm, pass.

I'm sure they'll sell like hotcakes anyway...

I liked family guy before it came back on the air( before it sold out). Seems like fox realized how much money they could make off the appeal of the show.
Which caused the original fans to balk at the commercialization of their cult hit.
This deal is just another step down that road.

@ vandamguy:

Christ, that is all I hear these days. I'm a fan from when it first went on the air, and it's definitely no Simpsons in terms of sell-outs. Sure, the start of the fourth season had a lot of rocky moments, but I was just watching one of the new episodes last night, and it was prime material on par with the end of the first run. Quit your bitching, the show's still great, even if more people are finally watching it like they should have years before.

The only episode I'll pay for will have to be when peter joins the new england patriots and showboats to "shipoopi".

Other than that, I don't have a 360, I have a psp to watch videos on. And porn is strictly the only video format available on psp. lawl

Hey, MS, the DVD set that came out? The one every college student and person aged under 30 bought 5 years ago? We all still have that. We're fine thanks.

"Sold out"

It's a cartoon on TV! Since when has TV ever been a family friendly local industry? I swear, if that shit had Che Guevara in the theme song, you guys would eat it up like candy. TV is business. It's made to sell. Shut up.

It's a cartoon, it makes me laugh, I'll buy it. I don't have to DVD either. And frankly, if you believe this won't sell, please get the fuck out my office right now. It's Family Guy.

You know what a waste of money is? flOw. $8.00 to make your acid trip better.

Why would I buy this? I'll admit I like Family Guy occasionally, but it comes on 3 freaking channels. nthz

What, the Xbox Live Marketplace needed more unfunny? Wake me up when they're offering Futurama episodes.

Microsoft! How dare you put more content on the marketplace that makes you more money? I don't like this show and my opinion is the only one that matters! Stop putting up stuff I don't like, even though I don't have to buy or have anything to do with!

The world revolves around me, and everything I say goes! Screw everyone else. I don't want you posting a very popular television cartoon even though it will bring about great profit. That's just stupid and wrong.
