Steam sales on Freedom Force and X-Com photo

Man, sales on Steam happen all the time, don't they? It's like they plan sales every weekend or something. Well, you won't hear me complaining. This weekend there are two awesome packs of games for a very low price on Steam. How much would you pay for both Freedom Force games or how about all of the X-Com games? $10 would be a deal, right? $5 would be an even bigger deal. Charging $2 would just be crazy.

The guys at Steam are crazy.

From now until Sunday night you can get either both Freedom Force games or every X-Com game for just $2. The X-Com bundle contains Apocalypse, Enforcer, Interceptor, Terror from the Deep, and UFO Defense. As if getting seven games for $4 wasn't enough, Steam is also offering up Tropico 3 for $13.60. Go forth and buy more games then you'll ever be able to play.

Freedom Force and X-Com Bundles $2 Each on Steam this Weekend [1Up]

I remember Freedom Force as one of the most charming RPGs I've ever played, and for some god damn reason I never played the sequel. Today, this changes.

Can't seem to find my copy of Freedom Force, for some reason.

I guess this is a decent enough fix.

Mmm XCOM. So many good and frustrating memories. And Freedom Force too! Smashing baddies with light poles and cars and...well...everything else you could pick up. So much fun!

@kohelhunter: And the point of saying that was...?

Big fan of XCOM, but I don't own a copy of any of the games. I might pick this up...

It's late and my brain isn't working properly, but if I buy Freedom Force: Freedom Pack, that includes the original game as well, or do I need to buy Freedom Force itself as well?

@PixelSith64: I think he (kohelhunter) is saying that Steam is awesome, so I think that's quite in context. Unless he's suddenly using "the shit" literally.

@SunkiZt: The pack includes both the original game and the sequel.

Loved Freedom Force as a kid and had two dollars left on this Visa gift card so it was a no brainer.

If there was ever a time to not be a teenager without a job, it is now. Damnit.

Is Freedom Force any good? I'm trying to decide because I saw some vids on Youtube and it looks like Diablo/Torchlight with superheroes.

Valve has what might be the best business strategy in the world. They have a normal type of DDS thing going, and then on the side they basically do little garage sales for some of their old stuff. Except unlike normal garage sales they don't actually lose any product. They have infinite stuff to sell, and the stuff would never sell at normal price; but people won't think twice about spending $2 on it. Fucking prints money. I had a friend who bought Psychonauts. He bought it while on his OS X partition, and he hasn't even installed it on the XP partition yet. I doubt he will ever do so. Prints money.

It's decent. You can make your own little super heroes. The story's campy and fun. Kind of reminds me of the old JLA comics. For two dollars it's a steal.

@Los255
It's a point and click RPG, but that's pretty much where the similarities between Freedom Force and Diablo/Torchlight end. In Freedom Force you control a squad, not just one guy. The gameplay consists mostly of pausing, giving each of your characters orders, unpausing, seeing your characters do some awesome shit, and pausing again to give more orders. That sounds really boring actually, but it's not; one of the most addictive things about this game is developing your characters in such a way that they complement each other in battle. There's a ton of characters and they each feel very unique. There's some real replayability, too. After your first couple of hours you'll realize that you should pick five or so characters to develop as your core squadron, and that means that on the next run-through you can pick another five.

Freedom Force (and it's sequel) was such an underrated game; very clever and solidly designed (by the folks at Irrational, I believe). The origin comic for Minuteman always made me crack up.

I think Steam is designed to empty my bank account in 2 dollar increments. Devious.

Hmmmmm, I really can't decide what to buy!
Freedom Force seems like hell of a lot of fun.
But the first X-Com is a really deep strategy game, just a bit old. AND I get 5 games in X-Com pack.

Any advice?

@Pixel it's like the British "bollocks". Bollocks are bad, but the dog's bollocks are good. If something is bad it's shit. If something is good it's THE shit. Language is fun.

Freedom Force stands out as one of my favorite all-time games. I just loved the universe and the story was pretty great too. It's just campy fun and it has this feeling about like it's an old, long-ago established franchise although it is an original IP.

@MatV,

XCOM, even just for UFO Defense, its the best one anyway. So many good memories :D

@ $2, everyone should be enjoying themselves with XCOM. No excuses now!

Seriously, me and my friend both bought the X-COM pack on the spot, 2$ is definitely worth it for the first one. Terror From the Deep is awesome too if you're just looking for more of the same fun. It's nice to have the different scenery and story at least. Apocalypse is worth a shot but it's not as fantastic as the first one, and might not be everybody's cup of tea.

So buy it.

I'm still trying to figure out when 5 bucks for an hour or so of content is a bad thing. If they were trying to charge 10 bucks for it, yeah. I'd be pissed. But they never even attempted that. I guess, If you're so opposed to it, when the next one comes around just don't buy it.
