Steam has 'Xbox Support' section, OMG STEAM ON 360! photo

The recent discovery of an "Xbox Support" section on Steam's forums has ignited rumors that Valve's popular digital service may be heading to the Xbox 360 in the near future. The section was buried deep in the boards, but Steam users are experts at digging stuff up. You'd think Valve would know that ... or maybe they did!

Despite the rumors, it's entirely likely that the section could be for Valve's existing Xbox 360 titles. Valve likes Steam to do its own thing, which runs contrary to Microsoft's equally controlling practices, which is why we've never seen the service on an Xbox before. Still, it wouldn't be the first time Microsoft has bent for Valve, so who knows?

In any case, speculation abounds!

This would be so fucking awesome. The reason I've held on on buying Portal 2 is because I don't own a PS3, and want the Steam support.

It would be awesome if they were able to do what they did with Portal 2 on the 360 but I'm going to go with 'it's the support section for their Xbox titles' as the reasoning.

Anything else feels like false hope.

Please, MS. Stop being uptight jerks. I got Portal 2 on my PS3, and won't avoid doing that again if you keep denying great services like Steamworks.

Yeah, I highly doubt MS would ever allow steam on Xbox considering Steam is a direct competitor to Games for Windows Live.

Does this mean that PS3 and Xbox360 people can play with/against each other via steam? WOah, that opens up soooo many possibilities (not really, just one, and that's playing a game with fanboys of another system... nice!).

This, along with Crysis, is kind of strange. Crysis is probably going to go over the XBLA size limit, and Steam has been competing against Games For Windows Live. Could Microsoft really be easing some of the restrictions of Xbox Live?

We all live in hope, I suppose.

Maybe they've put the Xbox Support section there just in case Microsoft FINALLY give in to Valve. I wish they would hurry up and let them incorporate Steamworks already, it's bloody childish of Microsoft, a company who seemingly want the better version of products on their consoles (from what I have gathered over the past few years).

In 2007, I had an Nvidia 8400 GS on my PC, because I felt like PC gaming was basically WoW.

In 2008 I bought HalfLife 1 for $1 and Portal and Bioshock for $5 on Steam. Then I saw the Steam sales and I bought an AMD 5870 video card.

Today I own 350+ games on Steam and am once again a PC gamer. Valve reached into the depths of gaming hell and saved me. Thank you Valve, and long live Steam and your glorious sales!

I'd bet dollars to donuts it's just for the 360 versions of their games. Wouldn't mind if it meant cross-platform play for future Valve titles like CS:GO, but I doubt there's any chance of or reason for Steam to come to XBLM in any greater capacity.

In the meantime, I look forward to quenching my thirst on the tears of those overspeculators who get shot down after reading far too much into this.

Online services are headed away from hardware manufacturer control towards publisher control. Cross platform play is on the horizon as games, no matter the platform, connect to the same publisher servers.

No speculation needed- that category has been available since Valve released The Orange Box on Xbox360.

Support.steampowered.com is not only for Steam support but also for all of Valve's games across all platforms.

I really think that some kind of Steam support is going to be the thing that eventually leads to some game having Xbox/PS3 cross-platform play. And that would be fucking amazing!

Please give us this, oh glorious videogame Gods!
