Steam grows in 2009 without water photo

So, there's this little program available over the Internet called "Steam." It's a digital distribution service that offers PC games like Left 4 Dead 2 or Risen. Apparently, this thing is catching on. According to its developer, Valve, the platform grew in 2009.

In a media blast this afternoon, Valve tossed out several exciting Steam growth numbers. In 2009, Steam went over 25 million active members, and handled 2.5 million of those concurrently in December. Collectively, these people now log in average of 13 billion minutes or so each month.

It doesn't seem like Valve is going to sit on their success. In the press release, Valve's president Gabe Newell said his studio plans "to continue to expand and grow the platform to better serve developers supporting the open platform and millions of gamers logging in each day."

We're not sure about the developer part, but we've learned that the best way to grow something and keep making money off of the product is to buy a greenhouse and various tool upgrades. Nothing beats a level four watering can. Nothing.

STEAM is the Windows OS to PC Gaming - strangely enough built by a company that was formed by two former microsoft engineers.

Yeah, I started using Steam last year to get some cheap games. I mean, Super Monkey Island HD for $1.99, Braid for $2.50, Audiosurf for $2.50, Stalker for A DOLLAR AND A BIT. Steam is a curse. A good one.

If they keep up with the jaw dropping weekend and holiday sales, I'll keep buying. Sure I'd rather have a hard copy if the prices were even close to the same, but Steam's sales are enough to persuade all but the most adamant nay-sayers.

They said PC gaming was expensive, but experimental data argues the contrary.

Steam makes me happy in my pants, Steam sales, midweek madness' and weekend specials make strange things happen down there.

@velt - Not so much, considering steam isn't plagued with banana points currency, limited availability on the pc side of live (only available in 26 countries worldwide!), random disconnections, annoying 13 year old wankrags and the rest you get with the live package.

Just sayin'

Brad: That was like sooo good! I am amused at your gardening interpretation, and tying it back in to the subject of the robot coven through an RPG term. I'd "give you" an internet cookie, but it would merely be an ASCII graphic of said baked good.

I wonder if Brad is like the archetypal Manga character with massive strength but is actually a huge softie inside?

Phallus Knife Fight: I demand "artistic" interpretation of Brad as a blushing muscleman.

I have bought 80% of my game from Steam the last two years. The best platform on the PC and MS had there chance to buy into Steam when it started but said no, lol. Now all they have is crapy games for windows.

I don't know why all you guys masturbate over steam. Their customer support is horrible, you CANNOT call them on the phone, you have to do everything via email, which is slow, and sometimes they don't bother responding at all. Their shit is cheap for a reason: their support sucks.
