Steam goes insane, offers The Orange Box for $10 photo

If you don't own The Orange Box by now, why not? This weekend's Steam deal is 66% off the normal $29.99 asking price, so you really have no excuse for not owning the collection of damn fine Valve games.

Half-Life 2, Episode One, Episode 2, Lost Coast, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 ... for $10. Crazy, isn't it? I'm extremely curious to see what kind of effect this is going to have on sales, because I am a huge nerd, obviously. But beyond that, it could mean good things for the future.

Maybe we'll be lucky enough to have Valve divulge how big of a boost in sales The Orange Box will have received from this sale, but I'm not counting on it. Something tells me the company might use the data to push the idea of massive price reductions for absurd profits on other publishers, which would be fantastic for us consumers.

Have to wonder when Valve will finally piss off the people who paid full price for these products with a sale like this.

I love how Valve offers deals that makes people who paid $50 for five games feel like they've been ripped off.

You know, I've already bought a number of games off Steam that I can't currently run on my laptop, so I don't think my broke ass can justify this one, right now. (Especially since I already own TF2 -- which I bought for $20. Eff.)

Wow... I have both Half-Life 2 and Portal, but I don't have either of the episodes or Team Fortress 2, so I think this sounds like a purchase for me.

@ PwnanObrien

I don't see why anyone that bought it when it came out should be mad that it's on sale now. You're probably not mad that people can buy other games that launched around that time are cheaper.

They need to hurry and announce Portal 2 and Episode 3 already. I got my OB for 19 bucks, so I'm not mad at all (plus, this package was worth WAY more than even 60 bucks).

Incredible. Valve release 5 games for the price of one in 2007 and people are complaining that they feel ripped because it's sold on a deal for $10 in 2009.

@Kyousuke

Praise you good sir, if it wasn't for you, people might have been fooled by The Orange Box being the 3rd highest rated PC game ever on Metacritic. Fuck me, I don't think I could sleep at night knowing people wasted ten whole dollars on such a travesty.

Oh wait you're the retard with the irrational hatred of anything Pc related, never mind.

Since I already bought TF2, what happens if I buy this?

Do I get an extra copy of TF2 to send to someone, I do know a soon-to-be Mac owner (who will dual boot) who would like a copy...

And then he'd owe me 20 bucks...hehehehe....

You are correct, you will be given it as a gift that you can give to anybody. If they lack steam, when you gift them it emails them all the info and stuff that they need.

Also wtf at 10 bucks. I am seriously going to buy 2 copies so I can gift this to all my friends who lack any of the games. 10 bucks, holy shit on a hand basket.

I own the orange box for 360 and HL2 and TF2 for PC. I'm still buying this. I'll gift TF2 and HL2 to my woman and it looks like I'm playing through Portal and ep 1 + 2 again.

I paid $45 for this at launch and think it's awesome. I got more than my monies worth out of TF2 alone. Hell everyone should buy this even if they don't have a gaming PC, just in the event they ever do.

I just read that if you buy the OB and you already own all the games for it, you'll only be able to gift HL2 and Episode 1. Episode 2, portal and most importantly, TF2, are excluded from gifting through OB. Lame.

man, recessions are tits. super cheap deals at fast places food, cheap games, and that's only the start I bet. every industry ever is seemingly trying to cater to the economic downturn. man this is the best time to be a teenager; with nothing to spend money on but the junk you want. too bad I missed this window by like, half a decade.

I'm in the same boat, but since every computer I got since 2004 got hl2 installed on it and another playthrough on that computer, I think he ammount of time I spend on steam will be doubled now. DOUBLED.
