Yes, because every time I open steam, I think about non-gaming software and my inability to get a shop on the internet that sells it... Is there even a market for non-gaming software for non-corporate consumers ? Everything on my pc is for free, except of windows.

i remember the days when i didnt need to install an app service to download apps and need to run that app to use my apps
Neat, dunno how much I might use this personally, but always nice to have extra features in case I want to.
@amtalx: "Having Steam chewing up resources doing fuckall while I play games is bad enough." I know not everyone has a capable PC, in a time where 16GB RAM is cheap as dirt and processors overclock to more than 4Ghz on a regular basis it sounds a bit silly.

As long as they keep the Apps separate from the games, that way they don't clog up the games and make browsing a pain, I'm all for this.
So FRAPS will be in the very first batch I assume. I probably won't buy anything (unless STEAM SALE!) but provided it doesn't clutter up the marketplace I have no problem with it.

This idea is RIDICULOUS...ly brilliant, Gabe can do no wrong for he is our LORD and SA-- All glory to the hypnoGabe.
Valve is doing this to make more money, simple as that. I fucking hate Steams invasive malware of a DRM as it is, why would I want it to have anything to do with programs I need to use regularly?
@Forsakeneyes, for some people spending $90 on RAM is not "dirt cheap" when it could feed you for a week and youre living paycheque to paycheque... Though if thats the case youre probably not using Steam for anything but indie titles, since gaming is a luxury.
But heck, even 8gigs is still overkill at the moment.

I don't see the point in this, Windows is my platform for software. Steam is my software for games.
I can see maybe game utility or system performance software being potential purchases but like, a word processor or an art program.. I have no need to run those through steam
