StarCraft II sells 3 million in one month photo

Blizzard has already boasted that StarCraft II was the fastest selling strategy game of forever. So it's not surprising to see find that it continues to sell at an alarming pace, having broken the 3 million mark in one-month.

"We appreciate all the enthusiasm that players around the world have shown for StarCraft II," said Blizzard CEO and cofounder Mike Morhaime. "It was important to us to deliver an overall gameplay experience that was accessible, balanced, and fun, and it's been gratifying to see how strongly the global community has already embraced the game."

Are you guys finding the game to be "accessible, balanced, and fun"? Were you among one of the 3 million sales, and are you still playing the game a month after its release?

Balance or not, they definitely made me their bitch, seeing as previously I didn't care for RTS and I bought this six hours into my trial.

Wow 3million. Doesn't that rival halo sales? I can't believe certain devs (I.g. Epic and remedy) aren't taking advantage of perhaps the largest user install base.

I like the people who cry "PC GAMING IS DEAD lol" and point to SC2 as if to prove it isn't.

Just because a massively hyped, large and established PC game does well, doesn't justify that PC gaming is doing well.

It shows that it has the potential to be successful, but PC Gaming has seen better days.

its funny how the only two pc-only games i've ever seen advertised on TV are the best selling pc games of probably the decade. Starcraft 2 and WoW. Maybe if other companies put some faith in the PC and put money in advertising and such, instead of assuming everyone will pirate it, good things will happen.

Sadly, that maybe is too much of a risk for the suits on the top floor. They need to pay for their 3rd house too, y'know!

I'm enjoying it. I feel that the original Starcraft was, for lack of a better phrase, more noob friendly. Some elements, such as unit match-ups, defense and attack strategies, and general micromanagement were a bit more intuitive in SC1 than they seem to be now. Either that or i have just gotten MUCH worse at RTS games since back then. In all likelihood, both are true, and it simply means I have to try a lot harder (and play a lot longer) to be any good at it.

I am not, but I want to be. My roomate bought SC2 I want to play it, but my effin PC is broke. @_@ I want to play it so bad because it has a Warcraft 3 feel to it minus the crappy Limit on the Units.

"Are you guys finding the game to be "accessible, balanced, and fun"?"

Well, let's just say Mr. Morhaime has never been on the receiving end of a Void Ray rush. Fun? Yes. Balanced? Not so much.

It's a shame, too, because I like to play Zerg and they do have some nice air units of their own, but it just seems like when the Void Ray rush rolls up there's simply nothing I can do about it. None of the Zerg anti-air units can stand up to that much firepower, and the only chance I have is if I pull every trick out of the book, whereas the Protoss player merely has to send an attack-move order. Frankly, I have to wonder what the hell Blizzard was thinking when they put that unit in the game, and then nerfed the Ultralisk (which I hardly ever see in a match) while something like the Void Ray dominates games with its Anti-Everything Beam.

RWarrior, are you in bronze league?

Void Rays are stupid easily to kill.

Mutalisks destroy them, Hydralisks destroy them, and if you're worried about Void Rays, get an extra queen or 2 for AA.

Seriously, if you lose to Void Ray rushes, you need to get better. Unless it's a surprise void ray while you have a 4gate knocking down your door or something, then that's just you getting outplayed.

i win with void rays 80% of the time - you have to upgrade the shit out of them tho, or hydralisks will take care of them quickly

I can't say that I didn't see this coming, but those numbers are pretty impressive.

I mean, 3 million in a month (let's say 30 days as the standard).

That would be something in the neighborhood of:
-100,000 copies per day
-4166 copies per hour
-69.4 copies per minute
-1.15 copies sold per SECOND.

When you're pulling sales like that, that's just insane. What kind of numbers are they going to pull down on Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void?

Accessible? I'm a hardcore RTS gamer so I had no problems. All my friends and brothers, on the other hand, can't even beat the campaign without either cheating and/or playing on Easy. Needless to say, when we play together we only play against the AI.

Balanced? More or less. Its not perfect, but no non-symmetrical RTS ever is at launch.

Fun? Ehhhhhh... I played SC1 for years and towards the end only the user made maps kept me coming back. SC2's user made maps... well... so-far I've been lenient since its such a new game.

Ok, SC2 aside, but, The Witcher sold 1.5m, despite being

a) New IP
b) From totally obscure european studio.

It's all about the hype! This has just about lived up to its hype expectations in both ability as a game and sales thus far (IMO)

yeah, well 12 years of blue-balling results in a pretty serious peter north effect. (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Peter%20North)

you see, here, in the metaphor, semen is represented by sales.

Its a good game but no where near balanced and many of the current imbalances where so in beta. For me given how long the game was in beta a lot of these problems that where identified in beta should have been fixed quickly but have not.

SC2 did such a great job with the game imo. my dad has purcharsed it, my co-workers have purchased it, and of course my pc gaming friends have bought it. you would think that after playing 200+ multiplayer games that it would get old, but it is just awesome. the community is what makes the game so much fun. if you have the game and don't pay attention to stuff like Day9's netcast, then you are truely missing out on the real fun of the game.
