Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

In case you've been in a coma for the last 14 hours or so and missed last night's megaton announcement, count yourself lucky, because you weren't among the teeming throngs of Craft-hungry fans looking for some solid media in the wee hours of the morning. What fortune, we've done the work for you!

Our initial SC2 post has been updated with a high-quality version of the cinematic trailer, and you can check out two very, very pretty gameplay trailers after the jump. Additionally, Blizzard's official Starcraft II Web site has been updated with a slew of screenshots, videos, and concept art to whet your appetite -- your appetite for destruction. Shut up, that was awesome. The point is that there's a whole lot to digest, so you better get to.. you know, digesting.

Blizzard may have muscled a few of us out of their following with the World of Warcraft love-in that's been going on over the last couple of years, but it seems as though they'll be making up for it with StarCraft II. Hell, if they keep this up we'll be having one of those tear-jerking 80s sitcom conflict resolution scenes -- the emotional music and audience aww and everything. C'mere, Blizzard. It's been way too long since we've hugged.

The hell are you staring at? Hit the jump and watch those videos!

Thanks for posting this. I wish I could have gotten a more direct source with some downloadables, but this is the best we'll get until Blizzard releases the official gameplay trailer.

I noticed Blizzard is doing something with terrain-based strategy now. Notice how those Terran units can just jump over obstacles. I assume there's also units that climb and jump over obstacles as well...

Which begs the question...
Will there be hover tanks? =O

If you look at the screenshots on IGN Nex they have all sorts of hilarious signs on this apparent Terran base-area. Bubba's Guns and Grits I think was one of them.

Also -- I would not be surprised if in this alternate universe there's a bunch of Terran playing World of Warcraft...

... would you?

I would rather see an ad for Lost Vikings 3 than this Night Elf dancer. Now this game will have to be rated M because of in-game sexuality... :P

So any guess as to what's happening with those zerglings after they enter that greenish glowing cocoon at the end of Movie #2? I was just musing how awesome it would be if they could split, i.e., one zergling enter, two zerglings leave. It's probably just an upgrade mutation ala hydra>lurker from brood war, but being able to produce units anywhere (even if they're just 'lings) would be tight as hell. Your last 10 lings finish tearing down an expansion, so you highlight them and hit the spawn button, and poof, 20 seconds later there's 20 lings. Poof, 20 seconds later 40. And so on.

That would probably be a little too broken, wouldn't it?

Nah, I think that happens when the Zerglings turn themselves into rolling bombs. Theres a video out there that shows them taking out an entire Protoss army using it.

If they got weaker everytime they split I could see that working out just fine; Maybe half their HP and Def

The graphics look absolutely fucking amazing. All of the minor details and the whole style just blow me away. Its exactly what Starcraft 2 should look like.

@bobafettm: Spanking it to the material doesn't help either.

Hawt. Totally allayed any worries I had about the graphics, looks splendid. My only hope for this game is that there's at least one new playable race. Terrans, protos and zerg are all awesome, but I want more, damnit. My money's on some kind of space cyborgs. That said, the new units already shown look uber. Those protos tripod things ftw.

They said in thier FAQ it's just going to be the three primary races, for balance concerns. Every new race is an added level of complexity to the balancing act -
it'd be like what happened in Red Alert 2 when Yuri came in and was broken as hell.

They say there's only 3 races, but haven't you guys played the secret level at the end of Brood War? It hinted at a zerg/Protoss hybrid IIRC.

They may not be playable exactly, but they may end up being a race like the water creatures in WC3, or Yuri's army in Red Alert 2: Yuri's revenge.

At least I hope they don't let that bonus mission's enticements go to waste.

It's been an especially long weekend, but after hearing this, it just improved 10,000-1/2%.

The ten-year wait was a bit of a bitch, but I can deal with that.

Viva la Blizzard!
