Star Wars: The Old Republic slated for October 2010 release? photo

If a report is to be believed, we may be playing Star Wars: The Old Republic next year. French fan Web site Star Wars-Universe is reporting that the ambitious MMO will drop in October 2010. In the piece, the release information is said to come from a Lucas Arts source person. That part might not be true.

Speaking with Destructoid, LucasArts senior PR manager Adam Kahn confirmed that a release date has yet to be announced. He also mentioned no one tied to the project announced a release either.

“There has been no release date announced for The Old Republic, from anyone related to the project,” Kahn said via e-mail.

Of course, the game could launch in September 2010. That part of the larger question Kahn, understandably, didn’t clarify. But whenever we do score the delicious details, we'll let you know.

This will be the first and most likely only MMO I'll give a real try. If BioWare can really deliver the full KotOR experience then I'm in hip deep.

I'm still doubtful though.

I don't see eye to eye at all with the guy above me (Haizeus). I'm definitely playing this game. I'm sure I'll try other MMO's out in the future, too. To say I won't, just seems like it'd be limiting myself to experiencing things for absolutely no reason. MMO's are bound to evolve, just like every medium evolves, constantly. I can't imagine why anyone assumes MMO's are somehow different.

Also, until Bioware officially gives me a release date, speculation is meaningless. Even official release dates usually mean nothing, with the way things are always pushed back.

Wow, I thought it was a Spring 2010 game... oh well.

I have never tried an MMO, I don't really like multiplayer and I don't like not having permanent access to my game, but for a Bioware/Lucasarts combo I will probably try it.

As excited as I am for this game I think they should take as long as needed. We don't need another Galaxies on our hands.

"It's just gonna be Star Wars flavored WoW..."

How do you figure? Both require an internet connection?
