They need to update a few more things into it and start making it appealing to pay to play.
Many people I've talked to played the hell out of it for the free month but didn't feel like they were missing out on much not paying to play monthly.
I'm interested to see if it takes off like WoW.
The population will die off rapidly, simply from running out of things to do...
Don't see myself going back anytime soon. No thanks on the free weekend.
Same about any other MMO really though, even WoW - the only reason for grinding raids is artificial time locks and drop rates. There is nothing to do besides dailies, PvP, and raiding.
The whole "Rush to endgame, raiding and pvp is all there is to an MMO" mentality is just... wrong. And developers encourage and design around it these days, and all they have to rely on for subscriptions is making their games into slot machines to get players addicted(and hope they dont notice).
Though if I do get the urge to have a second job that I dont get paid for, TOR is the one Ill go back to.
Still subbed up for now though, and sent my roommate a trial friend request that we haven't activated yet. Figure if they decide to join I can get myself to level more.. Now it's going to be free for almost as long as the trial this weekend, so I feel like I've wasted the request.. Maybe I could almost double their time --not that level 15 is going to be anything more then a days work for us. Ridiculous how easy it is to get to 20.
@Camel Toad
If you've got a friend still subbed up they can send you a friend invite for a 7 day trial, if your going to miss this weekend's freeness.. Or maybe one of us could.
Doesn't matter, they handled this game quite poorly. Hope whoever is still playing enjoys it.
The game is certainly doing well in terms of units sold and active subscribers (though it remains to be seen if they've managed to make a serious profit, if any at all, with the few hundred million dollars they spent developing and marketing this game for over 5 years).
But that's not really what I take issue with. The number of people who don't feel like spending $60+tax up front for a game, then an additional $15 every month so they can actually play it, is pretty large. Not everyone has that type money to invest in all of their gaming, let alone a single title. As soon as the first expansion pack is released, that amount will only increase further. And not everyone has the time to dedicate to a game like that, which requires you to group up and schedule play time for large portions of the content.
So yes, the group that's still *VOCAL* about their qualms with Swtor being an MMO and not an actual sequel to Kotor II is certainly small. But the number of people who loved Kotor I&II and don't have the time or money for Swtor is pretty substantial, much more so than the people actively subscribed to the game right now. Kotor I&II sold 4 million at retail alone. That doesn't even account for years of second hand use or digital downloads, namely through Steam. The series has quite a following.
@Funktastic Your new best friend, so long as you don't mind me NOT having a super amazing collection of video game stuffs <3
Other than those three reasons I would like to get into, at least, this weekend.
"Faring pretty well"? They never filled ONE server, the population of swtor has been falling vertically since release.
Which is to be expected from a WoWclone with 1/3rd of the content which only feature is "the npc's TALK lol"
Feels good man.
