It's the biggest crowdfunded game ever

People love Star Citizen and are willing to show it with their wallets. Chris Roberts' giant space game managed to raise $1 million in just a week, causing it to pass the $25 million mark. This unlocked another one of their stretch goals, an "enhanced alpha." This enhanced alpha will allow them to have another 50,000 players try an early build of the the game.

Chris Roberts unveiled the next stretch goal: adding Banu Merchantman to the game, which will unlock should they reach $27 million in funding. This is a race of space traders, and they want to flesh them out more and "offer players a completely different way of experiencing their universe."

Chris also made sure to clarify that these stretch goals weren't "feature creep," and that these are "elements we’ve been building and planning that will be all that more impressive with additional resources. In essence, you’re putting things we’ve already discussed for the future into development now."

I loved playing Wing Commander on my Amiga, and I can't wait to play this. I imagine that it will consume many hours of my life, and I am more than happy with that thought.

As gamers seem to be more and more willing to play games in an unfinished state, it feels surprising to me when a developer decides to delay an update because of bugs. Of course unfinished games are buggy -- we expect that --...
For the ambitious, crowd-funded space sim Star Citizen, it took four months to shoot from $30 million to $40 million. So $2.5 million a month. And in the last month and a half, it's reached $43 million, showing no signs of s...
Chris Roberts and his team on Star Citizen were at PAX East to show off Star Citizen's dogfighting module. You may have watched this footage already, but now it's in super hi-def and the crowd isn't totally drowning out the audience this time around either. I need this game all over me.
Here's designer Chris Roberts playing a bit of Star Citizen ahead of PAX East, complete with the audience losing its shit over some rather silly things. Not that I blame them -- there's an immense amount of excitement built ...
