StageSet: make virtual films in PlayStation Home photo

You know how PlayStation home has guys chasing girl avatars that are really guys? Or how you always walk past a crowd making racist slurs toward other people online? It's great fun! Okay, so not really. But a new space called StageSet looks like it could be a lot of fun for creative types.

Machinima comes to Home with this new Home space that lets you create your own virtual film inside your PS3. Joystiq says that set lighting, operate cameras, and even mess with green screen effects in this expansion. The word is that StageSet will be included in this week's Home update, so you won't have to wait long to make your silly movies.

Alphazone4 has plenty of videos of this expansion in action for you to check out. This one on ghost grips looks pretty cool. After the jump you'll find a clip about cinematography in StageSet.

What do you think? Does this look ineresting to you?

So wait, am I going to have to ask people to act for my machinma? Can I create stand ins?

I'll got there, but it feels like home is just a big collection of neat ideas....

huh,I had no idea something like this was in the works for home.thats really cool,i mean it's peripheral to gaming but so's the ps3 browser and i'm using it to type this and it's pretty handy imo. some will complain OMG WHERE R DAH GAMEZ PS3 R TEH SUCK,but who cares.to me,it's just more topping on an already tasty sundae;it's good by itself but sprinkles make in even tastier.the only complaint I've ever had about PS3 is it's lack of built in upscaling to 1080p,I game at a desk and sit around 3-4 ft away from a 32" tv so the resolution difference is really noticeable to me,but not a deal breaker by any means.just a shame that home is such a hard drive hog for ppl who have the 40gig and haven't upgraded their HD.

I wanna know if theis means that we're a few steps closer to being able to in game video capture. Because some of us can't afford capture cards T_T.

I think I'd like to give this thing a spin after it drops though. I hope they add new animations for it though, otherwise I would think it'd be WAYYY too limited in what you could do. Also, with the text chat thing...they just gonna make those speech bubbles pop up in your video? Meh, gotta wait and see, I guess.

Wow, that actually looks really fun! This might be the first home update I look forward to! I'm sure people will hate on it because it is connected to the PS3, but I think we're all pretty much used to that by now.

i still dont truly get the Home-bashing. I've never seen it turn into the guy stalking girl-guy 4chan manefestation everybody talks about.

Is there a way to get people permanently banned from Home? I think that would really improve the service. A user-run arbiter system.

It says that it will "arrive in the form of an Estate (ie, private apartment)" Which is definitely nice in the sense that you wont have to deal with over crowding and will actually provide a reason to visit other peoples personal spaces (When am I going to be able to play chess in my apartment? Get on it Sony. I'm never going to buy virtual cloths but I would gladly pay a small micro transaction to buy a chessboard.) but it raises the question of whether or not this space will be free or if it will need to be purchased. There is lots of free swag in home but aside from the default place your given when you first log in there are no other private locations that you can get for free. There is a first time for everything though. It still seems unlikely that they would charge for real content like this when they have so far only charged for fairly non interactive stuff like clothing. Plus it would be best to get everyone using this since it will help the sales of other things (if your making movies in home your going to have more motivation to buy furniture so you can use it in your sets and buy clothing for your actors to wear)

It will be interesting to see how this pans out, I think Destructoid should review it.

Could be a fun diversion for a bit, but what can really be done with it? The avatars aren't really all that emotive, so standing around it is? Will we be able to record voice?

As an creative person and a filmaker in training, I'll definitely check this out. If there is a lot of options available, I might spend much longer than I anticipate with this feature.

Methinks I'll write and make a Dtoid-related vid!!

What I want to know is: Can I use my Old Snake avatar to wander on someone else's set and ask where "an old killer can get some wetwork?".

I'm looking for realism in a game like this, Sony. Make sure the donuts from craft services are stale and that the talent verbally abuses the PA's with some regularity.
