EA recently released a "Survive It" trailer for its upcoming SSX game. The new video ends with the news that the title's launch has been pushed back slightly -- it was originally set to release in January 2012, but will now launch on February 14, 2012. It's going to be a Valentine's Day for lovers... of reboots, that is: Sony's new Twisted Metal title is also coming out that day.
The "Survive It" trailer above focuses on the game's nine "Deadly Descents," and they look pretty gnarly. You'll have to contend with:
an avalanche
thin air
jagged rocks
a thick forest
a pitch-black night
ice
gravity (well, I suppose all snowboarders are hindered by that)
a hypothermia-inducing chill
white-out conditions
I must say, I was apprehensive of the "Deadly Descents" subtitle back when EA announced the game at last year's VGAs, but this trailer makes these sequences look pretty damn cool. What do you guys think?

I'm down. It looks fun, especially the forest part.
The problem with the marketing mistake that was the first trailer was that it gave no hint that Deadly Descents was only a part of the new SSX game. It made it seem like the core of the title, when what most people really wanted was a blend of SSX 3 and Tricky. As an addition, the survival stuff looks great.
This is my most anticipated upcoming game. SSX 3 and Tricky defined videogame fun for me, and I really, really want the reboot to recapture the awesomeness that its predecessors displayed.
Really do NOT like the environment direction EA is going with this. I would easily prefer more "arcadey" style maps instead of more back country. Give me a ridiculous-ass revised Tokyo Megaplex and a new spin on Garibaldi and we're fine. Don't give me some back country crap run that takes 30-45 minutes to get to the bottom, mmk?
I played this at euro gamer. I am a huge fan of the series, but i could not get on board with this one. It was WAY too easy. Seriously, there was absolutely NO punishment for messing up a trick or crashing or anything. You never fall off or stop, you just roll and keep going. Also, doing insane tricks is insanely easy now, i was doing things not even humanly possible just by moving the analogue stick. I'll probably still get it, but what i played was disappointing.
@Silyn8: These are my thoughts exactly. I played this for a few hours at pax, and while it's not realistic by any means it needs to be more fantastic for me to think of playing it.
I want fireworks and a big crowd to cheer when I go by. I want it to actually be a snowbard super-cross with a bunch of riders on the same screen that you beat the shit out of. I want BT and Ferry Corsten on the soundtrack. I want laser streaks coming out of my body as I go by. I want a narrator/announcer that sounds like their day job is announcing dancers at a strip club.
The new SSX is fine for what it is. The mechanics were tight and it was visually gorgeous, but it doesn't do the former SSX games justice. It's quite a bit different (and less fun) than its predecessors. Granted, I only played free-run on one course, but it was as vanilla as you can get. Hopefully that will change before it's released.
Quick question: Are the Deadly Descents the exclusive pre-order bonus? Because I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that big of a portion of the game was locked.
Cynicism aside, I am really looking forward to SSX. It's been so long since I last played Tricky and SSX3. Hope this one has some online too!
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
