Gears of War 2 is a beautiful game. Yes, it has a lot of gray and brown in it, but it still has some of the best graphics that the 360 has to offer. According to Midway, however, the Mortal Kombat publisher has a secret title in the works that will more than match Epic Games' latest title.
"I just saw a demo of a new Midway game that's in development," claims Midway creative director Simon Woodroffe. "I can't tell you too much about it, but they've been on it for three months and it looks as good if not better than Gears 2. This is only possible because of the sharing of technology."
For someone who claims he can't tell us too much, Woodfroffe is certainly chatty about the new game: "It's similar to Gears, but a totally different set up. I'd say that if we were to take all of the games that sold on next gen formats, averaged a couple of things out, this will be as successful as anything in the top end. It's a very exciting concept.
"It's already looking as good as Gears 2, but the game mechanics are kind of different. It's going to be really big and really important. It's not often, especially when you're a cynical type, that you see a prototype or creative slice and just get blown away by it. But in this case, the hype is justified."
Not that he wants to overstate the game or anything. Excuse me while my eyes roll.
Where's my baby oil?
Thank you for that, you prick.
Good luck to them.
Where the hell is your "Sonic Unleashed" review!? I freakin' can't believe you haven't posted it yet!
Sega had problems getting me a timely review copy so I never got it until launch. Don't worry though, the review is scheduled to hit tomorrow.
The real problem with Midway is that they have become a lacklustre developer. The last game I personally purchased from them was Ready to Rumble on DC (yes, that long ago). Since then they have banked on Mortal Kombat, instead of giving us more Ready to Rumble or something new.
I hope This Is Vegas works out for them, but frankly they need a lot more original ideas for games. They have to be brave and give MK a rest in favour of something fresh.
Gears of War came about from Epic taking a chance after relying on Unreal Tournament for long time. I think in the same way Midway need to step away from MK, spend some time in the wilderness and them come back to create new games.
And I don't understand what the person in the article is trying to say, something about their game being better than Gears 2? He makes it so hard to tell.

Also, my dibs are on Blue.
Like Tribes for PS2 saying, "Goodbye Halo!" on the back,
or the movie eXistenZ saying on the VHS box "Makes The Matrix look like child's play."
