Squeenix titles: UK gets another game America finished almost a year ago photo

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't most of you playing Odin Sphere over half a year ago? Why then, is the UK only now hearing about a release for the bloody thing? I didn't even know we didn't have it yet because I've not bought PS2 games in the UK for a while, but that's just a little bit rubbish. Apparently it's coming sometime in 2008, but we don't even have a date yet. Damn you Square Enix, the first decent looking game you're publishing outside of the Final Androgyny games and you can't be arsed to bring it out here.

In other news, it should hardly be a shock that more of the aforementioned Final Fantasy is on the way, with yet ANOTHER version of I and II coming to the PSP and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Really Long and Pretentious Title heading to the DS. A few other games are on the UK horizon, with a schedule that looks a little like this:

8 February 2008
Final Fantasy I & Final Fantasy II (PSP)

15 February 2008
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings (Nintendo DS)

Spring 2008
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates (Nintendo DS)
The World Ends With You (Nintendo DS)
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors (Nintendo Wii)

Early 2008
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker (Nintendo DS)
Odin Sphere (PlayStation 2)

One year, Square Enix will not publish a Final Fantasy game, and in that year, the sky will cry tears of liquid sick and all rivers shall evaporate. It has been written, thus it shall come to pass.

[Thanks, Lemonus Electrica]

Actually, three criteria must be fulfilled for the world to end. One already has: Halo outselling Pokemon for a week in Japan. The others are, as you mentioned, a year without a Final Fantasy game, and dprime becoming a forum moderator.

Maybe it's just me, but I find FF to be a little more feminine, rather than both...at least lately. There hasn't been a real manly man in FF for a while now, not as a main character anyway.

When did it EVER have a manly man?

I kind of switched off FF after VIII. I played Revenent Wings using my not-R4, and I wasn't that thrilled with it at all. Finishing FFs 1 & 2 on the GBA was enough for me to be honest.

I'd like to see what The World Ends With You is like though. Likewise with Odin Sphere too, if only I had a PS2...

From Wikipedia:

Raimu Bitō (尾藤 来夢, Bitō Raimu?)
Raimu is a young and optimistic girl who never leaves her older brother Beat's side and acts as the voice of reason to counter him. Her nickname is Rhyme (ライム, Raimu?). She is a very bright and cheery person, and is an all-out earnest girl. Neku mistakes her for a boy at first because of her androgynous appearance.
She is not a playable character but can appear in battle in the form of a summoning badge for Neku. She is voiced by Hitomi Nabatame.

You just can't get away from it Squeenix...

Square Enix didn't develop or publish Odin Sphere. Is there something I'm not getting here?

While I'm kind of pissed odin sphere is only getting released some ephemeral time this year, I'm just relieved it's getting released at all. As for the rest, it'll take a good bit more than just the squenix logo to get me interested in a game these days. I'll wait for reviews.

Wasn't Odin Sphere an ATLUS game? Sure, it was developed by Vanillaware, but I thought the publisher was ATLUS.

Odin Sphere was alright but I played it for like 5 hours without even unlocking a new character, that damn valkyrie's storyline is long.

In other news, an english patch for Tales of Phantasia on the PSX has just come out. Sigh, RPGs used to be so cool.

Wait, Squeenix is publishing Odin Sphere? Does Atlus not exist in the UK or something?

Vanillaware is the developer of Odin Sphere, Atlus was just the publisher. it's not terribly uncommon for games to be published by different publishers in different regions on occasion.

Welcome to the magic of European publishing. We're blessed to have Atlus USA. Guess who's publishing Persona 3 in Europe? No seriously, guess, you'll never get it.

Give up? The answer is...

KOEI! Maybe at least they'll get a Lu Bu Persona...

Odinsphere looks purdy, do want.

Also where the fuck is Beautiful Katamari for the 360, i bought the official xbox mag just for the demo and now im hearing it may never arrive here at all!

Originality and Innovation seem unwanted in Europe. What a waste.
