SquareEnix trademarks Lord of Vermillion: why does that name sounds familiar photo

Apparently, Square Enix has registered a new trademark at the Japanese patent office. Square Enix registered the title, Lord of Vermillion on September 27 -- so this could this mean they have a new game franchise in the making, or perhaps a sequel to a past Sega game?

Sword of Vermilion was a Genesis title, which could mean Square Enix bought the franchise from Sega. This could also be a sequel or an expansion to Final Fantasy XI, as there was an item in the game called the "Vermillion Cloak," or Lord of Vermillion could also be a brand new game of its own.

Of course, this is just speculation, and we won't know more until Square Enix releases some official details about this new game.

I hope not, Sword of Vermillion sucks ass. I suppose it was decent in it's day, but it just hasn't stood the test of time. Of course, a new game can't be judged until you've played it yourself, but lets hope this isn't true.

Squaresoft is beginning to bore me, all these sequels and rehashes. It's like the EA of RPG makers. Thank god for Level 5.

It's a pokemon/final fantasy crossover obvisously. It will be set Vermilion City in the original pokemon game. Lt. Surge and Cloud will have to face off againest Team Rocket led by Sephiroth.

Arugala9:

Probably takes place 100 years after the events of Final Fantasy VII. Something to do with FFVII, I'm sure.

Don't forget Vermillion Jelly, the HQ Crimson Jelly. Back when I played I was the only person who would buy it on the server.

I predict this game will involve a Lord, and probably a orangish-red color.

It's unlikely the new <url=http://www.squareenixmmo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=49]Next-Gen Square Enix MMORPG will be a FFXI Sequel[/a]. SquareEnix has already denied that a few times, but it's possible this could be a title for the new project.
