Square knows how to tantalize: take a look at this ad for Chrono Trigger DS photo

Square-Enix are very, very clever. Rather than market Chrono Trigger in such a way where it will appeal to people who have never played the game before, they're notching their arrow and aiming right for the heart of the real fan -- the gamer who fell in love with this game thirteen years ago.

Any person who has played this game over and over knows the first line of dialogue that opens the game -- in fact, hearing it makes one feel all warm and gooey inside. The ad that you see above is running in magazines now, and I'm pretty sure I won't be the only one that got a huge, ridiculous smile on my face from seeing it.

Square also tacked the tagline onto the Chrono Trigger DS website, so if you go to goodmorningcrono.com, you get greeted with a black screen with the same ad before you launch into the regular website. I didn't know I could be so hyped for a game I've already played. Let's hope by November 25th I haven't put on my Frog cosplay ensemble and camped out on the stoop at a Gamestop, because that would just be downright embarrassing.

That is one of the coolest ads I've ever seen.

I've seen this and a little more as a banner ad on other websites, it's pretty much all the opening text. When I played it at PAX it was basically the SNES version with touch screen controls.

Well at least it will play better then the Ps1 remake they made. No god damn slow down.

Actually, I just like how they didn't anti-alias the font. Good call there.

And people wonder why Nintendo sells 10-year-old games on their handhelds. It's called nostalgia.

I hope the FMVs are on this.

Sorry to let you down The-Excel, but they actually did fuck up the font. It's a crappy way-too-small looking arial font that looks REALLY bad. Here's a screenshot, but I've seen the game in person, and it looks even worse.

Wait, are Square Enix really genius advertisers? Or are they marketing to the crazy people who will happily buy a game twice over?
If Chrono Trigger DS outsells Professor Layton on the DS or Henry Hatsworth, than we have validated the Square Enix tradition of remaking their old games to death rather than trying to hit new games.
Don't buy into the remake game! Certianly not for a SNES port when Square Enix JUST SOLD YOU a full 3-D remake of FF4...which you already bought on the GBA a year and a half ago...which is the SNES port.
We are doomed.

I think the font in that screen shot looks better on the eyes. Yes, it isnt the same, but small text = more text in one window. Idealy I think they made the better choice.

@Wedge:
I knew that, but I'm not as bitter about it as I would normally be since I won't be playing this anyway. Still, I wish they could have at least adapted a smaller version of the original font instead of use that atrocity. But as funran said, it's probably for the best that a smaller font is used for the smaller screen of the DS. Were it me, though, I would have used a taller font more similar to the original.

@Droll - Chrono Trigger is a bit different then the FF series which has been bleed dry on the DS. I want to see this port brought over but only brought over once. After that I don't need to see it again for another 10 years on a different system.

I still don't understand why people are creaming themselves over a port that may as well have been on the GBA like the Final Fantasy remakes. Seriously, the game was great, but not THAT great.

Huh. Now I wonder if the default name will still omit the H. I mean, character-naming technology has come a long way since those days.

Jesus fucking Christ, they aren't even adding anything worth a shit. A battle mode and a new dungeon, big deal. Are they even keeping the anime scenes they added to the PS1 version?

Fuck this game, fuck it right in it's touch-screen functionality.

And I love me some Chrono Trigger, I begged to get it when I was 8, I got it again on PS1, and I carry it around with me when I take my PSP. Don't need this crap.

Now my next question is.

Will this actually be coming to Europe, unlike the original gane or the playstation port?
