Unless, of course, you recognize the logo. Yes, it's the same logo for Final Fantasy Legends: Warriors of Light and Darkness, a 2D RPG that was released episodically on Japanese cell phones in 2010-11. In revealing their E3 2012 lineup today, Square Enix included Final Fantasy Dimensions among the titles, which is listed as an Android title in addition to iOS.
Aside from Final Fantasy Dimensions, Square Enix will also be showing Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance and Heroes of Ruin (both 3DS titles) at the show, so stay tuned next week for news, media and impressions!
Otherwise its 3 japanese developed titles from them, 2 western, and a whole lot of published nonsense
Oh, hey, Square, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you show off some of your own games in development like Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Final Fantasy Type-0, or Bravely Default? No? Didn't think so. Nevermind.
Anyway, hopefully they'll announce the new release date for Tomb Raider.
Otherwise I am keeping close tabs on Sleeping Dogs. I am genuinely hoping it surprises us all and does not got the expected route. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy will be a goofy romp sometime down the road. Here is to hoping for some news of FF Versus, though that may just be a pipe dream.
It will be interesting to see if they stick with the episodic model or if they release it as one large game, as they did with FFIV: The After Years.
Those better be surprise announcements, Square. You butt muffins.
Excited for Quantum, Theatrhythm and Dogs, though.
oh and Versus XIII please!!!!!!!
Maybe one day.
I heard XII was like that during production, but rumor goes Matsuno left after frustration with his superiors wanting younger heroes (Basch got turned down as hero, then so did Balthier until Vaan was forced into the role) and a less political story compared to the work he originally proposed. Parts of his vision still shine through, but then I look at Penelo in her hot pants and Ashe in her "not-pants" and can't help but sigh in disappointment.
Cynically and personally speaking, I think if a Japanese company feels they have to cater to a bottom-feeding, lowest-common-denominator audience who only want to watch and play with shallow jailbait just to barely stay in the black, then that company probably doesn't deserve to stay in business. I want better for series like Final Fantasy, Parasite Eve, and Metroid.
All in all, XII was anyway a major, brilliant department from previous entries, both in gameplay and storytelling, and deserves better aknowledgement for its credits. I've always felt that that game could have led Square to a more grown-up line of stories, closer in script to modern media narrative, but unfortunately it never happened (for shame). But as it stands, even with some parts of the game feeling a bit cut-cornered (an anticlimatic ending that struggles to create a clear antagonist for itself, while the development of "the last boss" could have led to a great "Delita" character), Final Fantasy XII remains one of the few eastern games with a script enjoyable for gamers past their teens (Final Fantasy Tactics being the first other coming to mind).
