It's sad how far downhill things went when Squaresoft merged and became Square Enix. The game was already released for PC many years ago and it was fudged with the same problems. It's disheartening to see a large corporation mess up a re-release of a game that's over ten years old. What's worse is its basically a re-release of the old version that had many faults with it. Might as well just use an emulator and grab a controller of your choice if you wish to play FF7 on PC.
I agree with the message in your recent Jimquisition, but I just can't bring myself to buy games with abusive DRM. I decided to pass on this release due to that alone.

wow more DRM, when are developers/ or publishers going to realize that DRM is a pain in the ass for both them and the customers.
Sorry to hear that the release is so damn buggy. Would be nice for people who didn't get a chance to play it back in the day to be able to play it now. Seems like from what I've read about this PC release that its not really worth your time.

No-no, it went downhill and THEN they were forced to merge to stay alive, it's just that it didn't get good again apart from some single Square game ever fourth year or so. Oh well, at least the "Enix" side has been consistently good so far.

I don't see an apology for archaic always online DRM on a game you can download a PS1 .iso of in about 5 clicks.

If I feel the need to play FF7 I'll put my PS1 disk(s) into my PS2 and if I really really really decide I need to play it on my PC.... I'll just download an emulator and put my PS1 disk(s) into my DVDR.

So being one who may have bought this, is there any way to unfuck the midi music? It has been tolerable but that fight with air buster that introduces the awesome metal/rock boss theme sort of ruined my mood when it came out like chiptunes..
Its quite fortunate for me and many others who bought the PSX version when there were still copies lying around on store shelves. Lucky bastards we are eh?

Didn't have any trouble getting my key, staying connected or enjoying the game. I do agree the achievements are lazy (seemingly starting off with a bit of effort then going fuck it), and while the 3D models look fresh and clean, the old pre-rendered backgrounds are fuzzy as hell. The curse of the HD generation sadly.

Its the PC version, again. Not too bad, wasn't expecting much. In fact I am more surprised they didn't release it as some kind of emulated version. At least this version features proper fade in and out of the music and the ability to modify any file in the game with the right tools. (Including the soundtrack.)

Jeebus, that header is amazing. It'd be awesome if Square-Enix would release DLC for the game that allowed you to skin all of the characters with those eyes and mouth.
Meanwhile you can download a perfectly working copy from your favorite torrent hosting site hassle free.

Bought this to see what the console fanboys keep ranting on about. Wish I hadn't. Awful, awful, awful, awful, awful game. Awful. Just awful. Total waste of money, time and resources. Just simply awful.
What Tobbii said, Square was the one that needed the merge, not Enix, Spirits Within almost caused them to collapse.

SE's store is fucking terrible. I've made one purchase from it and will never make that mistake twice. They shouldn't even bother trying. They're absolutely incompetent. And Steam is right there offering a perfectly good solution that they're already taking part in.
