I've played some damn fine browser games in my day: Run Jesus Run, Time Fcuk, Colour My World, I Can Hold My Breath Forever. SquarEnix is just gettin' in on a good thing.
Though I worry that some may see this purely as flame bait, they may have taken a few moves from Apple's playbook.

I'm pretty sure it didn't say "alter the course of Japanese gaming history" but "alter the course of Japanese history". Maybe it's just a misunderstanding and it refers to the fact that the game it's based in the Sengoku era and allows players to alter it somehow.
Is it supported by HTLM5, because you know eventually everything will have to support it over Flash, hahaha.
Actually, that's a very flexible thing to say. Changing the history, I mean, when I go take a dump in a few hours, that's gonna change the German history forever, too. In a very very small way, granted, but it will.
