Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIII countdown ... of DEATH! photo

Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to panic! In seven days time, Square Enix will make an announcement ... and it will have SOMETHING to do with FINAL FANTASY XIII! OH GOD!

Actually, it's not that exciting, but with so many publishers pulling the lame "countdown" gimmick on us, it's getting increasingly difficult to make it sound interesting. Square Enix has another of those enthralling teaser sites that the games industry loves so much, this one bearing the prophecy: "The countdown has begun. A new vision will soon be revealed to the world. Register now to ensure you're there for the unveiling."

What could this mean? With it being Square Enix, I'm willing to bet that it'll be something stupid, but if the publisher would like instead to instead announce something that isn't disappointing, I certainly won't stand in its way.

Its a pipe dream that wont come true, I know. But I can hope.

I am presuming the announcement will be that Final Fantasy XIII will be quickly followed by Final Fantasy XIII - X2, with cameos by Cloud and Vincent and, once a save file has been generated, enables one to put FFVII in any backwards compatible PS3 and finally activate the "Revive Aeris" code that all Final Fantasy hopeless have been waiting for.

"It is now officially... NEXT WEEK!"

What could they possibly annouce? Can you really top the '...huahhah?!" annoucement of FFXIII on the 360 last year?

I can't watch this awesome timer tick down because apparently my 1280x800 laptop screen doesn't meet the minimum resolution requirements of 1280x768. Maybe I'll just go to GameCrazy and watch the SF4 timer go down instead.

Speaking of announcements announcing future announcements, where the hell is my Left 4 Dead DLC, Valve?

These countdowns only serve as a warning to not even try and load the page until 2 hours after.

I remember the GTA IV countdown. I was there when it hit 00:00. But, nothing. Page couldn't load due to demand. So screw it, I'll look when I'm ready. :)

this countdown gimmick is being used waaaaaaay too often.

I can understand games like Chrono Trigger utilizing it (cuz you know, time is sort of relavent in that game), but seriously there were countdowns for GTA, Halo, Sonny and Cher vs Capcom, etc, etc

I hope they don't reveal the final Cylon... Sorry bad joke.

But back on topic, I hope that game companies will stop using 'countdowns' because they're just ridiculously overused.

My 1360x768 television is apparently too small to run a 10724x768 website, apparently. Well, fuck you too Square Enix.

dude, they already revealed the last cylon!
Anyway... I am really sick of seeing countdowns to games, and this is just a countdown to an announcement! I just cannot get hyped about games anymore because I just find it annoying at this stage- purposefully ignoring any news about over-hyped games.

I bet you it's Final Fantasy Haeresis XIII, the long rumoured 4th instalment in the Fabula Nova Crystallis collection.

I want everyone to know that I called it, right here right now.

CLEARLY it will be revealed that FF XIII is set in the future world of FF VII and that Sephiroth has been reborn in the form of a giant robot. This G-Sephiroth Mk. II will be the main boss, and is made up of Serphiroth's DNA, and parts of the defeated Emerald and Ruby weapons.

It'll be some dumb Square game for a handheld or mobile phone that nobody cares about.

Either that or it'll be stuff that people saw in famitsu weeks ago.

I stopped caring about FF13 when they said it wouldn't be out here until 2010.

My hope is that they will announce that Final Fantasy XIII: Versus will be announced for XBox360!!!

Or maybe it's just some sort of spinoff title for the iPhone/iPod Touch.
