Square Enix PSOne games coming to PSN

Square Enix PSOne games coming to PSN photo
     PSP

It has been somewhat discouraging to watch how Sony has handled the availability of classic PSOne games on the PlayStation Network. It's great that you can download these reasonably priced games on your PS3 and also play them on your PSP, but it doesn't really matter when they're games like Jet Moto. Sorry, Jet Moto fans. The only ones I've felt were worth downloading so far were Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Wild Arms.

Square Enix has us covered now. Hopefully. They've passed word on to GamesIndustry.biz that 12 PSOne classics are coming to the PlayStation Network. There's no word on specific titles, but you can probably guess a few. I know there have to be some nerdy delights among the planned releases

The Japanese PSN already has six Squeenix titles available, including Einhänder, Raystorm, and a personal favorite, Xenogears. Hopefully we'll see these titles make it here.

Have you used the PSOne download feature on the PS3 or PSP? What other Square Enix titles would you like to see released?

[Thanks, coonskin05]

It's nice to see some Xenogears love here- I still see a lot of hate for it being an 'interactive novel' at certain points. :P That said, I still own my copy.

I've been wanting to try Einhander for a while but not willing to pay 60$ for an original copy. 5-10$ is doable though.

RELEASE SOME VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAMES YOU FUCKING CUNTBAGS.

They have no reason to at this point other than sheer Japanese stubbornness.

I've been debating on whether or not I should buy Wild Arms from PSN, and it's good to see the possibility of more rpg's.

Xenogears is my favorite game of all time.

I agree with all, they need to release more ps1 classics on our end. I was just on the Japanese store the other night, MGS1 and Resident Evil 1 and 2?!? Why do we not have those here??

Oh wow, this is pretty cool. And why not? I mean, if the Sony is having problems getting enough PS3 games out to keep their customers satisfied, why not remind them of the great titles they missed out on in the past?

My dream = Vagrant Story gets a virtual release on the PSN which sparks a revival in interest amongst action RPG gamers old and new. So much so that Square-Enix releases a sequel that spawns a new series of successful Vagrant Story games with online play involving co-op.

As silly as this may sound to some of you, this is the sort of thing that would sell a console to me. I've got a Wii and planned on buying a 360 or PS3 eventually, but was pretty deadlocked on the decision between the two. Depending on the list of games being released I may very well have made up my mind.

It's a bit misleading to act like this announcement was for the US PSN. <_<; As usual, we're in the dark and haven't been told squat about these being brought overseas.

You really should update your post. There's nothing at all to presume we're going to get these games.

I'm jealous, SilverDragon. I got rid of my legit copies a long time ago when the PS2 came out and just recently sold all the strategy guides I had for the games. Wish I had kept the books now. DAMMIT!

The only games that will show up on these services are games that Square Enix can no longer milk dry with remakes. They've said that before, which means a lot of the games that people want to see will not appear.

It's total bullshit.

By the way, I loved Xenogears too, but I still have my PS1 discs for that game. I paid $55 for it in 2002.

Xenogears and Einhander are freakin' amazing, but we need Vagrant Story and Valkrie Profile. I know it's not a Square game, but I'd love to see Konami's Suikoden II, so I don't have to sell any organs to play it.

Xenogears is one of those games where I'm afraid of playing it again. My standards have gone up since then, and I'm afraid I'll be deeply disappointed if I play it again. Some things you should just remember how cool it was when you were 15, as opposed to trying to relive the experience in your 30's. It's like trying to watch Thundercats or G.I. Joe again. *shudder*
That being said... Vagrant Story and Brave Fencer Musashi... yes please.

DO WANT EINHANDER.

Even though I still have my copies, I'd want to see Vagrant Story, The Chrono series, and Bushido Blade 1 & 2. Publishing them online could spark that renewed interest they need.
And sadly I never played Xenogears, so... that.

And Valkyrie Profile. Yeah, I said it. They should do it.

Please do not disrespect Jumping Flash! and Twisted Metal 2, which justified for me the convoluted process that awaits a Mac-using, non-PS3-owner who wants to get PSOne games on his or her PSP....almost as convoluted as that sentence, in fact!

If it's just the "dead" series then Tobal 1 and Einhander would be great. I don't think Tobal 2 was translated but I would take the Japanese version, it's not that hard to figure out. Ehrgeiz too for that matter, although that's a Namco joint thing so may me more complicated to license. Dungeon crawls with items in fighting games were just such a great extra back then. We still break out Tobal 1 every year or so for a few hours of vs play before switching to Puzzle Fighter and Bust a Groove for that nice 90's nostalgia rush.

All of them. There are so many. Also, I'd like some stuff from the Japanese store like MGS1, Policenauts, Crash Team Racing, and Ape Escape.

Hopefully they can make it so PSX Chrono Trigger's load times dissapear because of the HDD.

I'd like them to release Persona 1 and 2 (and the other Persona 2 which was unreleased). Those aren't SquEnix games, I know, but this is the perfect time to do so, with P3 in high regard and P4 on the way.
