Square Enix patents new bodysnatching battle system photo

Square Enix has patented a new battle system created by portable RPG expert Tetsuya Nomura. In addition to Final Fantasy Agito XIII and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, the developer has been hard at work on secret projects, one of which may feature this new system.

The new system describes a mode of combat for an RPG or Action RPG that allows players to temporarily control secondary characters. When the time limit is up for control, players then switch back to the main character, who has now inherited the secondary character's abilities.

Players can automatically target other characters to essentially "Quantum Leap" into, and they can bring back spells and even stats like HP for their main character to steal.

Sounds like Invasion of the Bodysnatchers meets Rogue from X-Men if you ask me.

Is This One Of Tetsuya Nomura’s Unannounced Games? [Siliconera]

You know what this would be interesting in Nomura? Kingdom Hearts III. Just sayin'. Haters be damned.

That's a pretty spiffy system. I wish I still had time for RPGs, lately I don't have much time for gaming...

I am working on a patent which explains the process of brushing wet hair. I will, naturally, have several bad renderings of human figures and hairs. I also have several 100s of flow chart covering all possible deviations of hair brushing and how to wet your hair before (key point is the "wet" hair) you start anything. I expect to collect $$ after 2012. Thanks you reading my 2 second babbling.

I'm not thinking this patent passes the obviousness measure, somehow.

I´m getting kinda tired that Nomura always is in charge of all about FF and KH, at least they should try with someone different for new ideas D:

I think I shall patent platformers! Seriously though, I think it's not quite right that you can patent something like that. How long does it last and how often can it be renewed? I'm not saying people should be able to steal other people's ideas, but this seems a wee bit ridiculous.
