Square Enix not even thinking about Xbox 360 version of XIII yet photo

Square Enix shocked the world at last month's Microsoft E3 press conference by actually making the event interesting for once. We all know by now that Final Fantasy XIII is coming to the Xbox 360, but while a lot of people are talking about it, Square Enix isn't even thinking about it.

"We haven't changed the direction of the development," stated director Motomu Toriyama at the ludicrously named DK Sigma3173 event. "We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later."

The team does not even have an Xbox 360 dev kit yet, which should calm down hyperactive Sony-loving babies who think that Squeenix doesn't love them best anymore. It should, but it won't.

"I'm telling [the development team] to not think about the Xbox 360 right now. We can think about it after the development kits arrive," Toriyama added. "Right now, we're fully concentrating on the PS3 version."

Makes sense, of course. XIII started out as a PS3 project, so it's only sensible to concentrate on making sure that's finished first, rather than stretch the team thin. With all that said, we now return to I HAT U $QUARE ENIX U R TEH TRAITERZ HOW COULD U DO THIS TO MEEEEEE?!

Waiting to release it till the 360 version is done eh? If I was a Final Fantasy fan, I think I would be pissed off as such a possibly delay.

I agree with Pew - in fact, i am annoyed. Not pissed off, since i (or rather my brother) will get it for 360... but annoyed none-the-less. Why make the ps3 owners wait? For many of them (my friend included) this is one of the games they bought the system for.

Wait... how the fuck do they not have a 360 dev kit? Aren't they making two OTHER 360 games? Or are those underlings of the Squeenix empire?

Does this mean it will take longer to come out?

Fuck the 360. At least the game I care about(Versus XIII) is still a PS3 exclusive.

AKK: He never said SE didn't have any 360 Dev kits. He said the team doesn't have the 360 Dev Kits.

I don't care about it going to 360.
I care about it being delayed till the 360 one is finished if they haven't even started it yet. Oh well, It's going to suck on 360 anyway, Ports ALWAYS do.

I'm just not even sure anymore if its going to be developed at Square Enix for the 360. They might just outsource the job somewhere else.

Imagine they don't think about the 360 version and make it full of FMVs that take 3 full BDs. Then they would be very fucked.

Lamest delay ever.

Why do they make fun of multiple dvd's? MGS4 fits in one blu-ray, big deal, you have to re-install every act. Now, if every act had its own dvd and without an install, you would keep playing without any big pauses.

My brother was in act 3 while I started at act 1. Everytime we switched, the game started installing that act. If I could just pop in the appropriate dvd, there'd be much less waiting, no?

I find it ironic they made fun of it during the game in a codec conversation..

Is there anyone out there like me who actually LIKES the experience of changing DVDs? The "Please Insert Disc X" screens were a welcome hiatus for me, and always subdivided the game into logical parts of the whole.

well this is a pleasant surprised. Atleast now i know that the game should polished and with any luck take advantage of the ps3....on another not doesn't this make FFXIII the first game to be ported FROM the ps3 TO the 360?

"The team does not even have an Xbox 360 dev kit yet"

That's a little unnerving. They ought to be familiarizing themselves with that tech no matter how easier it is to develop for. But then again, I'm all for developers taking their time, as long as that "port" doesn't suffer.

Well if it gets em to release at least 1 of the versions before fucking 2010 or 2011 then im all for it. Seriously Square how can you possibly take this long to develop? Its not like they build a graphics engine from the ground up this time around they already had the Unreal 3 engine ready so what's the hold up?

The early FF games ( up until 7 ) were a lot more reasonable and are infinitely better than X or XII anyway.

So 360 owners will get a copy a year or so after the release on the PS3?

I think it's bullshit how the PS3 version is being held back so they can do a simultaneous release with the 360 version. If the game is finished then it should be released.

@Misanthrope: I think they tossed the Unreal engine and made their own, they called it the White engine I think? I could be wrong.

They should definitely not hold it back, that's just silly. They've already lost a bunch of respect they don't need to further irritate their fanbase.

if they actually do delay it for a simultaneous release i might not buy it just out of sheer aggravation that's no way to treat your fans. For games that have been in development for multiple systems the whole time its understandable as there shouldn't be more than a few days/weeks but porting takes more time

Well, I just like that they are going forward with the development on the platform they started on. I mean, I never thought theyd change midstream, but good to hear it. I think the game is going to be fantastic when it is done. I hope we dont have to wait for them to port it, but if we do oh well, thats not going o stop me from snatching the PS3 version when they decide to let it out.
