Sony has been swimming in praise ever since it announced the PlayStation 3 price cut, with Square Enix being the latest in a line of publishers to share its joy in the news. Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase believes the price cut is "really good news" and has been timed just right.
"We’re taking it as really good news, actually, because we’re planning to release Final Fantasy XIII this winter in Japan and next spring for both European and North American territories," he tells VG247. "Now that the hardware is becoming even more accessible for players, it’s really good timing for us."
Good timing indeed for Square Enix. Looks like taking eighty-five billion-million-trillion years to develop a game has its definite benefits.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Maybe it's cause PS3 didn't have many good games around this time last year or something. I'm all happy for the price cut but I think people are taking it a bit too serious now.
Part 8 was amazing.
Go figure.
Well the 360 has/had an extensive library, it was nabbing ton of exclusives, it was fairly new, it was cheap by comparison, I mean c'mon. That's a bold thing to say buddy.
I think considering how much people like myself and my comrades have been turned off by Sony in recent years this price cut is a big, big, deal. This could mean less risk for developers to put multiplatform games which means a bigger audience and profit for devs and publishers.
For the industry to praise Sony is expected. I don't see what's TOO serious. How is that even possible?
If what they've said about this generation lasting for 5 more years is true, then maybe it'll make a difference. But really, does anyone actually expect this gen to last that long?
Remember all the negative media Playstation has recieved in the last 3 years? Can you recall a few articles? Sony needs some posative press right now. Companys are praising Sony now because it helps with their income. It helps them sell games. The gaming indistry AS MUCH AS THE XBOTS HATE TO SEE THIS needs Sony. Its the truth. Where would gaming be today without Sony? It wouldn't really be anywhere.
It dosen't hurt that Bobby Kotick slammed Sony and "threatened" to pull support for the system if they didn't drop the price. Myself and millions of other readers/Playstation loyalists were pissed and still are. I myself have vowed to never purchase another Activision game. I won't. Others have done the same. With companys praising Sony, don't think they wont want to take some of those 'lost' Activision sales numbers.
Not to mention I've now got a bluray player, 120gbs, free online gaming and built-in wifi. I've got a feeling my 360 is going to collect some serious dust or end up traded in or sold.....(it sitting underneath my ps3 as we speak). MS better do something big and do it soon....I sense an imminent demise.
@Shin Oni
Well when the 360 was $400 at the time, the PS3 was I think $500-$600. PSN was still "young" and didn't have near as many features as Live did either. And as far from the truth that it is now, at that time the PS3 didn't have as large of a game library. When PS3 finally hit $400, the 360 was $100 cheaper and still had more features, which would be another deciding factor.
AND thank god I waited!Everyone seems to be happy about this, I know I am.

Just picked up my PS3 slim today from Gamestop......Been playing around with it all day.....all I can say is....WOW. I didn't know what I missing out on. I've been a faithful xbox 360 gamer for the last few years. This system kicks the 360s arse. Being able to go on the internet alone (instead of being stuck in the xbox live marketplace confines) is great.

JQM - Stick a USB stick in your new PS3 with some AVI files on it! Hit triangle and "Display All" - 360 never did that hey!
If you're in a pal territory - check out PlayTV.
Enjoy!
I am hoping this is not a repeat of the PS2s online game performance.....which was only good with SOCOM titles.
Really?
I mean, I've been using PSN since launch and it's very very rare to have problems. "Spotty"? I mean sure there is the once every couple of years maintenance and the odd Game specific problems (Fat princess anyone) but the PSN as a whole has been pretty damn perfect to me.
Perhaps you're from a different region.
I love the lagless, quick connect, plenty of players, clear voice chatter, freeness of the PSN, not to mention the awesome PSStore titles.
So yeah, I'm not sure where you get "spotty" from.
I must admit, my online experience yesterday was a little buggy (may have been due to an influx of new ps3 owners?) I have been on the psn and ps underground since the psone, I got error message 800...something numerous times yesterday, I tried to download a demo and it takes a while just for the demo to initiate the DL. Keep in mind, I have a 360 and a good wireless connection.....
Download of demos and stuff on xbox live was never this long or "buggy", but I'll give it a chance to redeem itself.....might take a little while for sony to work out it's bugs with all the new ps3 online users now.
Played Drakes fortune yesterday for the first time.......cool game, reminds me of a Gears of war/prince of persia/tomb raider hybrid........started playing mgs 4, seems pretty good, looking to get Infamous, resistance 1 and 2 (2 is soon to be a "greatest hit", so I'll wait for that) Can't wait for Heavy Rain and God of War III, those PS3-only titles alone warrant the purchase.....
Also, I think sonys motion controller system looks better than natal, hope they can make a great starwars/lightsaber game to go along with it, something along the lines of the jedi knight series would be sweet.....really miss kyle katarn in lieu of all the garbage lucasarts has been feeding us......enough rambling for now.....thanks
It's not spotty dude, it was that once every few years maintenance!
Anyways, i got on and played without issue (as usual) once the maintenance was finished.
