Many would think that having ten thousand Final Fantasy games in development at any given time might be spreading the property a little thin. Not Square Enix. Company head Yoichi Wada has assured fans that the series will never wear out its welcome, and that those behind the franchise are extremely mindful of ensuring this.
"Too much IP use is not good," says Wada. "Having memorable characters and back story is crucial to having a powerful IP. As long as there is a world with enough content and story, players will feel comfortable being in the same world for extended periods of time."
Wada adds that the Fabula Nova Crystallis saga, which will encompass Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII Versus, and Final Fantasy XIII Agito, has a very well crafted backstory. He also notes that the worlds created in the Final Fantasy series are what keeps the franchise going strong and staying fresh.
That's as well as maybe, but when you announce Final Fantasy XIV before XIII's even released, not to mention the two other games shipping with the XIII name, and that's in between Crystal Chronicles, various DS remakes, and a host of spin-offs, one could be forgiven for becoming just a little bit tired of the Final Fantasy name. The IP may not be exhausted, but it's wearing me out to keep track of it all.

This isn't the first time they've announced more than one main series FF at once.
I am not 100% sure but they might have done the same with with FF IV and V.
no one knows what the hell the gameplay actually looks like
But seriously, Square Enix system designers are amazing. Barring X-2, I can't recall a bad system that was just... awful. Even the infamous Junction System from VIII was just mediocre.
13VS looks too Nomura for me, 14 is too MMO for me, FFCC:CB is too meh for me, I've already played the original versions of the remakes...but yeah! 13 looks cool! And I'm an RPG nut, I'll probably never get sick of Final Fantasy. I just wish they would release them gradually rather than make us wait 80 years like they have with 13.
Maybe I'd be less jaded if Square never made Threads of Fate, Brave Fencer Musashi, Final Fantasy Tactics, Legend of Mana, Einhander, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, Tobal and Bushido Blade. Then I wouldn't expect any creativity from them.
Also, FFXIV being an MMO, its not exactly competing with FFXIII for attention as MMOs are their own acquired taste for a specific audience.
What do you mean "too Nomura"? Also, it took 5 years for FFXII to come out after X.
Square enix however treats each major game like it's own game, almost treating like a new IP; the numerical FF games have become so different from each other that you can hardly say that they are part of the same franchise... seriously, they even go so far as to change up the gameplay mechanics, and level up system with each game... The only thing that Square is actually milking is the "final fantasy" name itself... the franchise can't get old if they give us something completely new every time (this ofcourse excludes the spin off games)
If making sequels and buying them was equivalent to sex and said games just so happened to be male.
'TWEWY shows how good Square Enix can be when they try to make something new."
TWEWY was fun (although I quickly grew bored of it, it was still fun), but it didn't really feel like anything new.
It felt more like they put this in a blender with this.
Thats... what I was saying. If it weren't for those games, I'd have no expectations for Square. Because of those games, I have high expectations for Square - and as a result, I have been very disappointed in the direction Square has taken.
With the main series they are far from rushing them out. XIII should have been out 2 years ago and XV should have been announced alongside XIV.
As for announcing FFXIV before XIII is even out...IX, X and XI were all announced at the same time, so they actually displayed some restraint in this case :p
I understand that other games, do a similar thing. What disappoints me forever with Square is no pimping their other IP, with the delusion that FF series is all we want from them, and all they should put out. Rpgs are long gaming investments, so you need some variety to make you come back. I don't think FF has enough of it.
On top of that, with rpgs like Mass Effect and Dragon Age about, Square's constant flogging of FF is frustrating, that I know look to Valkyria, Demon's Souls, Persona and Resonanace of Fate, as well as the above give me something more.
I do like FF games, and I'd like for the company to make other titles...but its just too little too late now. Those series I've just listed, their makers are gone from the ranks now. They left BECAUSE they were ignored. We'll never get Xenogears Ep.1-4, and unlikely another Chrono game. Vagrant Story and FFT sequels died when Matsuno left the company during FFXII's development...at least hope of GOOD sequels rather than poor imitations...
...it would be like finding a needle in a haystack if it reached epic iterations..
the conversation would be like..
"hey remember FF43?"..
"no"
