Square Enix confirms release date for Bubble Bobble Plus! photo

In February Bubble Bobble Wii came to Japanese WiiWare, and I was oohing and aahing over it in hopes I might get to play one of my classic favorites with tons of extra maps including expert map packs. It seems that my wish will come true, as Gameguru reports that Square Enix has announced a release date for the title in the U.S. The game will be called Bubble Bobble Plus! in the states and will be coming to WiiWare on April 10th.

That's not all, though. Another Taito game is coming in May called Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure! (is it just me or are these games all about exclamation points, by the way?) which puts you in the role of twin heroes Bubby and Bobby who must climb to the top of Rainbow Tower. The game features a story mode, challenge mode and time attack mode as well.

No word on pricing yet, but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. I hate trading friend codes, but for Bubble Bobble Plus! I'm going to have to get off my ass and do it, because I am totally addicted to the Bubble Bobble universe.

This is more than just a remake of the NES one, right? If so, I am THERE.

OK, I'm dumb.

"One of my classic favorites with tons of extra maps including expert map packs."

I used to be good at reading comprehension...

About the only thing I love more than Bubble Bobble is Puzzle Bobble so I'm very happy to hear it will be released in N. America.
But wait a minute...you said "Square Enix announced" the game? I thought Bubble Bobble was Taito. So, does Square Enix own Taito?

Taito made the game and published it in Japan.

Square Enix is the publisher of the game for North America and Europe.

I think I may have made a mistake. There might be just 100 classic levels in total for the Standard & Super Standard modes and 100 new levels and bosses for the Arrange and Super Arrange mode.

I think game cost 800 Wii points and 200 Wii points each for the downloadable content packages for the Japanese version.

Square Enix bought developer Taito back in 2005.

I'm not sure if Taito managed to keep the rights to its original franchises after it was acquired by Square Enix.

April 10th? As in, tomorrow, and not on a Monday? I think it's only Europe that's getting it on the 10th...

DANG! How come Wii gets all the cool retro crap? I remember sitting up one night with a friend of mine and BEATING the entire NES version...this game was the 8-bit equivalent of heroin back in the day O_O I'm guessing there's no hope of an XBLA version, eh? Sadness :(

Do you know how damn difficult it is to reach lvl 99 with just a couple of lives? When you get deeper into the levels your bubbles get's shorter and shorter to the point where you have to be fucking kissing your enemies just so you can trap them in a bubble. And then when you reach the boss, that fucker is hard as hell. He take's so many lightning bubbles to kill. And he's so fucking huge that it's so damn hard to avoid the touch of death. All this just to save your ho bitch.

Apparently it only came out in the PAL region today. I thought it sounded strange that we'd be getting a WiiWare update on a Friday. Hopefully we'll get in Monday.
