Square-Enix clears the air around Final Fantasy Versus XIII, not held after all

Square-Enix clears the air around Final Fantasy Versus XIII, not held after all photo
     Final Fantasy

Just when we thought it was game over for Final Fantasy Versus XIII, comes word that it was all just a big misunderstanding on our part. At least that's what Square-Enix is now saying about the famous words of director Tetsuya Nomura, that were lost in translation between the pages of Famitsu and ourselves:

"Reports that development for Final Fantasy Versus XIII is on hold are false. The truth of the situation is that when free, some staff from the Versus team have been helping with the XIII team on development of Final Fantasy XIII. Development for both titles is continuing as originally scheduled."

Our Japanese is a a little rusty, but we're still trying to figure out how we ever came up with that silly idea in the first place. After all, Tetsuya Nomura only used the words "on hold" and said "the entire Versus team is helping to finish Final Fantasy XIII" once or twice. Whatever were we thinking?

Pains me to say this but Between The World ends with you and Infinite Undiscovery the PS3 seems to be getting the worst out of all square exclusives right now.

Even if FFXIII turns out to redeem the last 7 games ( VII VIII IX X X-2 XI and XII ) it might come too late at this rate. More likely, by the looks of the stupid fucking decision to keep planning 3 games instead of doing 1, it will be as forgettable as x-2 or XII.

The real question is: Will the Japanese get fed up waiting for Square to finish it or will they bite the bull it and get the 360 and its desperate and pathetic attempts at conquering japan with pretty much all other major JRPG series at this point?

@Misanthrope - Aside from The World Ends With You the other games that are being released by Square-Enix are not actually being developed by Square-Enix.

Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean 4 are not developed by Square but are actually developed by Tri-Ace. If anyone is actually guilty of giving the PS3 the shaft on the JRPG front it's Tri-Ace.

The only title that Square has developed for the 360 is The Last Remnant.

I thought Infinite Undiscovery was under Square. Other than that calling TWEWY "not square" simply because is made by the Jupiter team is a little extreme: arguably the jupiter team has had better output than the "core" square team lately anyways.

Nah, Tri-Ace is the sole developer of Infinite Undiscovery. Like SO4 they'll just be publishing the game, but wont be devoting actual internal dev teams to the project.

TWEWY, though, was developed by Square-Enix. Dev'd and pub'd by the big SE themselves.

But like I said, the only actual developing they've done for the next-gen consoles is through Last Remnant and the FFXIII games.

@MIsanthrope It's made for the Xbox your right, but it won't even compare to what Final Fantasy will be like. Its made by Tri-Ace and published by Square Enix. Your talking about the Xbox 360 for a game thats epic long. Take a look at the last RPG it was what 5 discs. I don't think to many people are willing to produce 5-10 discs just to fit a game on.

And even then its usually below bluray standards.

@Aurvantoid:
Aren't Square-Enix developing White Knight Story for the PS3?

Anyway this is good news for us FF fans then :-D

@McPhanus - Level 5 is developing White Knight Story for the PS3, and yes it is good news for us PS3 fans.

Also, good news but still a rumor: Word is that Level 5 has begun working on Dark Cloud 3 exclusively for the PS3 as well. I would expect it to be exclusive considering I think (keyword:think) that the Dark Cloud IP is owned by Sony.

Still, good news if turns out to be true.

I could see why you wouldn't fit say MGS 4 even on multiple dvds and you need blue rays, but RPGs? Lost Odyssey looks pretty decent to me graphics wise and its not a short game.

'sides, the 360 will come up with a blueray version soon; The pro will be upgraded to 60gb and the new elite will sport blueray.

Well SE is fuggin up, they need to focus one game at a time and release it then work on the other...

Other wise the wait-fest is on for releases for 2010!

If you hated the last seven games I don't think you're the target audience for FFXIII...

None of that will save the 360 in Japan however, but I do think that looking at the big picture FFXIII is taking too long for Sony to keep a steady grow to catch up.

Well that's a little bit better, I suppose.

I'm still guessing we won't see either of these titles for another couple of years...

@CryingTheAnnualKingo : Well first of all I counted wrong, I do like FFVII and have no real beef agains IX. And also if you read my comment I clearly say redeem, perhaps unadvisedly but since VII they haven't sold as spectacuarly. X did very good but underperformed by comparison. What I mean is that the PS3 needs a breakaway hit like FFVII and im doubtfull that will happen.

I hope that clears it out a bit more.
