Square Enix bringing Persona 4, Disgaea and Rhapsody to Europe photo

Square Enix is looking after European weeaboos who need a dose of Persona 4 and some NIS classics, as it will be bringing Atlus' latest PS2 RPG, along with Disgaea DS, Rhapsody DS and Disgaea 3 to the PAL territories.

Usually, the duties of distributing Atlus and NIS games in Europe go to Koei, but it seems that Squeenix has pipped the Dynasty Warriors publisher to the post. Whatever the publisher, this is sure to make RPG fans in the region happy.

As welcome as I am to see these games looking at the bigger picture, this is a little worrying. I'll elaborate.

These are good games for Square to release, but with the rise in interest inSMT series, it seems to me Square are seeking to suck up the rpg competition.Persona is the one seriess to make FF look as over

Its clear that Atlus, Nippon Ichi etc have raised their creative juices, despite their lack of money bags, where Square see fit to not bother much. I'd find it quite annoying to have Square stamp their mitts all over Atlus hard work, which in time may result in the Atlus name being forgotten. Now you might not think this possible, but had many of you heard of the Persona series, before P3 came out?

Pretty soon, every jrpg will have SE on it. Do we really want this?

Despite my negative tone, at least Europe won't be short on copies again, like with P3. Kinda sorry to see Koei Tecmo not try to keep P4, but I guess it really up to Atlus, Nippon Ichi etc.

This is awesome! Now even more people will be able to play P4!

I can't wait for this game.

@Cowboy TTop

Unless Square buy Atlus and the rights to make SMT games in house, that's not gonna happen.

Atlus' name is foremost remembered by people who play their games. How many people just browsing a game shop pick up an Atlus game?

I have nothing but love for Square with this news, just having the game published is good. However a publisher with the financial muscle to promote the game as it deserves.

Persona 4 would have come to europe anyway.

I know, there's some people out there that think Square are gods or something, but they are far from it. Square have made this move of Persona 4, because Persona 3 sold well.

Persona 4 would sell just as well without Square. I'd just prefer Atlus etc got the credit for their hard work. Atlus also remind me of what Square used to be like, before FF and too much money went to their heads. I'm old enough to remember so forgive me.

Square wouldn't buy Atlus, since its more pressing for them to buy a western dev, to aid expansion. But ask yourself, why would Square need to do this? Ideally they don't, and while a shrewd business move, I'll still buy to support Atlus.

I can't ever say things are better, since Sqaure and Enix merged.

Oooh! This means I can hopefully sell my Disgaea 3 USA copy so that when DLC comes out I can actually buy it :)

Imo, Square aren't EA. EA consume perfectly good companies, and the development houses are never heard from again.

Square are only publishing the games, they haven't bought anybody out yet recently, and we are getting some damn good RPGs. Not to mention Europe getting the unreleased Dragon Quest games from them. If this brings more RPGs to the territory, along with ones we wouldn't usually get, who am I to argue?

What I am saying is compare what EA has done with Square, and anything that Square has done wrong is nothing compared to EA.

@Cowboy TTop:
Persona 3 didn't sell that well here in Europe because it was a relatively limited release that no one other than the Atlus faithful knew about.

At least now that Square-Enix are publishing Persona 4 it was get more exposure and the game will get the credit (and sales) it deserves.

Also since Square-Enix are publishing P4 hopefully we won't have to wait so long for the game to be released here. (Persona 3 FES only came out a few weeks ago)
