Square-Enix bringing new MMO to 360 and PC ... maybe PS3 photo

According to an interview with Pro-G, Square-Enix will be bringing a brand new, next-gen MMO to the PC and Xbox 360 with a PlayStation 3 version also considered a possibility. From the interview:

Pro-G: So what are you working on now? Any plans for the future?

HT: I'm still working on XI as it's on-going but we are also working on a next-generation MMORPG for 360 and Vista but PS3 is a possibility.

And the MMO craze continues. I'm eagerly awaiting someone to do a console MMO right, but with Final Fantasy XI on their roster, my faith ain't so strong in Square.

FF:XIV anyone?

With the advent of this generation of consoles the time is right to steal the MMO from the PC! With the headsets the keyboard is almost completely useless.

The only thing that it was required for was communication in PSO and the next 'real jump'(Vent ftw for MMOs is being able to communicate with one another via voice chat.

I for one welcome our new console MMO overlords! I'm an original creation, like Rickey Rouse, or Monald Muck

i don't think anyone can dethrone WoW. many will try, no one will succeed.

Velcroman, the same thing was said about EQ back in the day.

It wasn't until WoW that it was finally beaten down and slain, and cut into little pieces. Then thrown to the wind to be scattered throughout the four corners of Norrath.

Granted its popularity by the time WoW came out was nothing like had been back in its hayday. Still, it's not like SOE had the presence in China like WoW does today.

Ah, so i guess THAT's why square-enix got the unreal 3 engine.
With the fact that Square has developed the new engine withh FFXIII and the fact that the Wii can't handle the unreal 3 engine, i was wondering why they got it... this would probably be the reason.

I can see them porting it over to the PS3 though, kind like how even though FFXI was orginally on PC, they brought it over to xbox... it damn well wsan't that popular on xbox, but it didn't really hurt to send it over... not to mention the PS3 could use a few good online games, seriously, wants the point of a free internet service if there are no good games to play... and the more popular they make PS3, the better it will be for FFXIII... so it's all win

I just hope this new MMO will be better than FFXI... i liked FFXI at first... but it's ABSOLUTE reliance on parties (except if you were a beastmaster) really killed it for me

FFXI was really bad, in my opinion, and I played it on PC. I'm sure it was worse on the console version. Age of Conan is going to be coming to the 360. I really hope they do it right. The first company to do a console MMO at a high quality will make a killing. I still think PC will always be better for these kind of games, but maybe someone will prove me wrong.

yeah it's a shame, i should be more excited that there is probably a new FF coming to 360, but the last one really was no fun, i would rather have a non-mmorpg final fantasy come over, then one like the last one... or WOW, with account transfer....mmmmm

The two major problems with FFXI were the strictly party-based leveling and the player run economy that lended to the majority of players being screwed over. If, with this new MMO, they allow players to me more independent it could be a much better experience.

Y'know what the sad thing is... i played FFXI for the PC for like half a year... and it took me THAT long to relaize i wasn't having any actual fun. That's addictive gaming... Seriously, the game just gets plain monotonious... spend a few hours just trying to get a party (even when your a tank)... spend a few hours killing the SAME monster with the exact SAME battle routine (provoke, self-heal, sheild smash, provoke some more, and the occastional party battle chain), and resting in between every other fight... spending hours on the quest for the damn class armor, going with a bunch of poeple who all need the same item that drops from a very powerful mosnter only like 1% of the time... Only thing to do solo is to farm for money, which involves running around and killing low level monsters, who drop marginally good selling items but not as good as the slightly bigger enemies that would kill you quickly if you tried to fight them, even though they are technically like 10 levels below you >.<

FFXI would have been WAY better if it wasn't 100% party based and actually made it so you can do some decent leveling and money making while solo... partying would just be even better for both, and be nessasary for quests... i think that's generally how it is in WOW, though i never got into WOW...

god damn... either MMO's are addictive or i'm just plain blind and dumb... i'm going with the former

Monte said what I've been saying for a while. If the MMO is more action based then it deserves my attention. Until then I don't really care too much for MMOs.

I'll NEVER play another MMO unless it has open PvP like WoW does. It just adds so much more to the world IMO. This is interesting though, I do hope it's a new franchise.

Lagging sales and the almight dollar changes allies quickly!
