I'm watching andriasang's liveblogging and he's talking about customizable dresses... guess we'll have a ton of DLC for this one!
That said, I'm a big fan of Square Enix's word-salad naming policies with

I liked Lightning even less in XIII-2 than I did in XIII, so this doesn't really get my hopes up. Then again, XIII-2 was a huge improvement over the original, so this kind of gets my hopes up.

Actually, I retract my previous statement. The world driven thing might just be referring to the Majora's Mask-like countdown clock to the game, and not some tacked-on social aspect. If that's the case, it's worth a try.

Honest question: is Final Fantasy doing well in terms of sales? Cause the recent games have all gotten mixed reviews, but they keep making tons of them in same the style and even with the same characters, so...

I liked FFXIII-2 despite it's completely nonsensical plot. FFXIII was pretty terrible, but I liked Lightning. I still think Square Enix is its own worst enemy when it comes to these games.

Lightning definitely wasn't the problem of FF13. It was everyone else. She had a personality, it was just wasted on terrible terrible execution.

Quite honestly, Lightning had the most personality of the entire XIII cast. That was the fucking problem with the game's story.

Why isn't it called Final Fantasy XIII-3? They're only getting MORE confusing.
Also, Lightning was almost entirely useless to the plot of Final Fantasy XIII. I have no idea why she ever became the "face" of 13 when Sazh, Fang, and even friggin' Vanille had more charm and story-driven roles. All Lightning did was scowl and punch her teammates.

Looks like I'll be getting this. Lightning is my favourite part of the FFXIII games. And I like that this will have a more action like battle system instead of the menu system.
Want to update the story? The world elements you mention as being related to social elements aren't that at all. They meant being able to interact with the world's inhabitants along with the day night cycle. The game takes place over 13 days at the end of which the apocalypse occurs. Not sure why you felt you needed to jump the gun by posting things that are not true at all.

Remember when every Final Fantasy game was a new story with new characters and a new world? FFXIII is an excuse to not have to innovate.

Herp-derp... I enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII. I did, but the fact remains that overall it's subpar and comes off being mediocore when pitted against it's siblings. Especially in particular those of the sixteen bit generation. Proving that "graphics" are not everything. No matter how loud the griefing children cry.
On that note though -- XIII-2 -- was a total bust. DLC? Really? I do not know what was worse though; Square-Enix putting DLC into a Final Fantasy title, or the flippin' morons whom bought into it. The story? All it was missing was, Doc. Brown, and a flux capacitor. No, amount of going back in time, or through alternate variations was going to save that story. Much less the characters. Between the half-arsed story, and DLC I was glad to be rid of that hideous freak of a wannabe Final Fantasy title.
How do I feel about "Lightning Returns?" I think I'm gonna be sick as hell. The problem now is that essentially Square-Enix has shown how screwed up XIII actually was from it's original core. They butchered the original concept, lied to us, and not only handed us what should have been XIII, but ended up being only a shadow of what was promised, shown, and done. Then came XIII-2, and they promised to reconcile the fans and apease us. They did not. Especially not me. They apeased morons with DLC though. This third installment though proves they not only butchered the title itself, but profited by selling us three installments. Essentially you end up spending over a hundred and sixty dollars just for the full experience of what was once promised to us, and even then it's still subpar at best. I won't even touch it. Why? It's utter crap, and I demand better quality, service, and a fuckin' PROPER Final Fantasy title. Four fuck ups in less then a decade. Way to suck ass and ride your coat tails. They are lucky that the fans are spurring this shit on, and keeping the hope alive. Too bad this fan is done. Will I be missed? Nope. Will I miss Final Fantasy? Yeah. Good thing I can just emulate the good titles, or replay my original copies.
Also on a side note the anniversary bundle is overpriced, and not worth that absurd amount of money. Anyone dumb enough to splurge and buy that deserves to be flogged, and executed. It's morons like that keeping these dumb ass choices going.
