Spore pushed back to 2009; Thing 1 prescribed Wellbutrin photo

Kotaku has word, via the latest issue of Game Informer, that Will Wright's magnum opus, Spore, has been delayed indefinitely. After a bit of sleuthing, however, it turns out EA has actually pushed the title from fiscal '08 to fiscal '09; a sobering alteration, certainly, but not the apocalyptic announcement we were originally handed.

The title - which seeks to provide gamers a way to shape the very evolution of a species, and, in turn, an entire world - has been delayed a number of times already, and with such a massive scope, we imagine we're only a few months away from an announcement delaying the game until Jesus Christ comes out in support of Darwinian Evolution.

Since Spore has topped almost every list of most-anticipated titles since its original announcement, today is a dark day in Whoville. Little Cindy Lou Who has spent the last three hours weeping inconsolably into her stuffed Lorax, and Tommy has, once again, become completely mute.

Sadly, it's gonna still be out before Duke Nukem: Forever.

Ordinarily I would throw a fit, but there are too many good games coming out in the near future.

I stopped following this and getting excited about any news about it a long time ago. This just cements those feelings further.

I would have put a $5 pre order on this game from EB. The only game I've ever pre ordered or wanted to buy for pc. I hate myself now.

Is it too much to ask to have the ability to create a race of super-intelligent genital-shaped creatures in a videogame before the end of 2008? apparently it is.

2009? I officially don't care about this game anymore. I will not participate in anymore getting excited about the game. Just make a post in 8 years when the game comes out to let me know.

When I think of Will Wright, I think of him as "The guy who makes games I never play."

Wow. Does spore go down in history as the most hyped game ever? Ive been hearing about it for years now and it might not be out until april '10. Fiscal '09 goes into '10, right? Unreal.

I don't want to hear another goddamn word about this game until at least Christmas time of 2008. That shit is ridiculous.

Yeah, to start hyping a game this early in mainstream media is messed up. Hey guys check out this awesome game yeah look at our gameplay videos pretty aweome huh? SIIIIIKEEE, you have to wait 2 years for this little gem.

I am curious to see what happens to this game now that its going to be pushed to 2009. Its either more time to make things right or more time to make things wrong.

Yeah, this is kind of ridiculous. The game has been winning awards, and now you're telling us it won't be ready for consumer level consumption for another fourteen months? Sims 2 must've made Will Wright think he's god's gift to gamers, even though gamers don't play the sims; housewives do. Apparently the integration of actual gameplay instead of mindless wandering around buying stuff is proving to be a stumbling block.

I'm willing to bet that most of Maxis is concentrating on pushing out shitty Sims 2 expansion packs as it is. The Spore team is probably only 4 people, alternating days between writing code for Spore and making boats for the new Sims 2 Fishing Days Fun Times! expansion.

Is this fiscal 2009 or calender 2009? Because EA start their 2009 fiscal year in April 2008. That's not so far away.

Alright, i just read the article and it said that it slipped form fiscal 2008 to fiscal 2009. Basically it means that it's coming out between April 2008 and March 2009. This is of course assuming there isn't another delay.

Just consider the mechanics of this game: we're not talking about running around and shooting things. It's ambitious to say the least. For once, I can't condemn EA for bad decisions. Maybe, though, Will Wright should cut his time doing lectures, demos, and interviews for the New Yorker, and get back to the grindstone. But seriously, the mechanics for this game are unprecedented and complex far beyond pretty graphics and run n' gun crap. It's no surprise to see it pushed back.

You mention sims2 must have given Will Wright a big head?

Well, since EA just created an entire division of itself for 'The Sims'.. perhaps he's not the only one buying his own hype.

http://tinyurl.com/yteuma

Basically EA now has 4 sections, EA Sports, EA Games, EA Casual... and The Sims... seriously.

heck with Spore, heck with Will Wright, heck with Maxis, heck with EA

This is when you know EA has fully enveloped Will Wright's creativity, mind and soul... It indeed is a sad day.

So lets see where I get a job at when I graduate. At least I wont get sucked into EA...

*quotes Rockvillian's post*

You know.... this is why people release BETA versions, and then put out update packs. If the game is on PC, then people will most likly have INTERNET! and can DOWNLOAD pretty little bundles called PATCHES or SERVICE PACKS. I am not condeming EA for this..... but it would be a nice idea to START BETA TESTING IN THE PUBLIC ARENA!!! Instead of crappy delays!
