Split Reason unveils a virtual cornucopia of new gamer tees photo

You guys know I can't stand tacky gamer fashion. There's just too many people out there with silkscreening machines and terrible senses of humor. Split Reason, on the other hand, seem to have both style and comedy down to a science (and I'm not saying that just because they made some of our tees!).

Their newest assortment includes some hilarious must haves, my favorites being Slot Machine and the Head Stomp Beanie, but there is also something that a lot of gamers are going to be majorly thrilled to see: new Zero Punctuation tees! I'd go for Pants On Head Retarded, but since I look like a cancer patient in yellow, I think I may go with the basic logo tee. There's a lot worse ways you could fritter away $20.

Colette, at least you'd be a cute cancer patient. The cancer can't take that away from you.

Ooops, I thought this was a post about T-Shirts, but it looks like I stepped into a hissy fit.

(Runs to get a front row seat...anyone know the line on this action.)

Why the fuck would you buy a Zero Punctuation shirt? Its like buying a Joystiq or a Digg shirt.

Tickets to the bitch fest, 24 bucks each.

C'mon people, I gotta get me one of dem Numbered Digipacks from NIN.

Seriously though, that shirt contains way to much yellow for my liking.

Even the most "outspoken critic" has become a sellout, first with the videos, then with the t-shirts, what's next, a Zero Punctuation live action movie?

Jeez, I think Yahtzee would almost be proud of the massive fuss we're making over him here. xD

As for the T-shirts, I don't really care if he wants to make a little extra cash on the side. He's only a sellout when it starts affecting the quality of his reviews.

@Heretic, I think the choice to "sell out" usually isn't really selling out anyway. Granted, yahtzee probably saw this as an opportunity for more money, and we don't know his situation so he may need it. Either way, he was in the position to make a decision and he did.

End of.

I wish people would get over the whole "oh noes, you sold out!" nonsense. There's absolutely nothing wrong with making merchandise that some people might want. Destructoid (a site with a similarly "edgy" and "against the grain" tone) does it, and you lot don't whine about it. It's not a big deal. It's called making money, and you'd do it too, if given the chance.

I think the problem is that too many have come to use the term "selling out" too loosely. I don't think merchandising some fun T-shirts and wanting to make money in ways that don't conflict with your ethics* is just fine. If he were to start accepting money and/or gifts from SquareEnix in return for favorable reviews, then he'd be selling out.

*This is all assuming he's a normal game reviewer - which he isn't. He's just some guy who likes to rant his opinion via humorous animations.
