If you were entertaining hopes that Splinter Cell: Conviction would be heading to the PS3, you better kill your expectations now like a yapping, drowning puppy. Ubisoft has claimed that Conviction is intended solely for the Xbox 360, and that a strong Microsoft partnership will see the game take full advantage of the machine.
"There's going to be a really strong partnership with Microsoft," said producer Alexandre Parizeau. "Obviously we'll do everything that we can do to make sure that the experience is indebted with whatever the Xbox has to offer. I want to make sure that when the game hits the shelves the disc will 'meld' with your Xbox 360 -- it's meant for the Xbox 360 and it will show."
Parizeau also explained why Conviction is taking the lonely road of the third party exclusive: "It's really cool to be able to focus technology on one platform, to be able to really exploit it to the maximum of its capacity. We've been working with Microsoft for a while now. We've been working with their engineers -- we've had super good feedback from them on all sorts of different things. It's been a really good partnership with them.
"They're backing us up. There's no question that they're supporting the game to its fullest."
Damn. That's a shame for PS3 owners, since Conviction is looking really quite amazing. I've never really cared for Splinter Cell games until this one came along, but hey, at least I've got an Xbox 360. Sadly, those who just have a PS3 are fresh out of luck.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
What about the Wii only owners? Oh. Right.
Pretty shitty that PS3ers don't get it, but it has made me think about exclusive games. If they FOCUS on one console, it might end up better because of this focus. Oh well. We'll have to see if this melding pays off.
I've been a huge fan of the series. I'd rate them, 3 > 1 > 2 > 4 personally. My expectations of 5 are rather low though. It's nice to see them move the series back more towards the formula that worked so well for the first 3 games.
exactly, for a year there are no plans for a port, then we hear rumors and then TA-DAAA a port with all the fixes the first version should have had and new content (and another flame war on the net to boot). Until a company literally comes out and says THEY PAID US OFF I usually take these comments a the usual "we just want this version to sell as much as it can" PR BS. Not even the "only on xbox 360 " stamp means that much because eternal sonata and tales of vespiria proved devs will say f*ck it in a second and not care.
I wouldn't get my hopes up for OnLive. Wasn't there supposed to be some sort of public beta this summer? I haven't heard anything about it. It's still looking like vaporware at this point.
They did have a banner up at PAX, and a button in the swag bag. But other than that, I haven't seen or heard from OnLive in quite some time.
This is something I've been waiting for them to do since I first played on a 360.
You pop in the game, the menus and music and atmosphere are building, you hit 'Start' and bam, a system menu pops up saying 'Select Your HD Storage' or whatever and it looks like a plain old Xbox menu. Same with when achievements pop up and when friends come on line. Which, for me, always kind of ruins the immersion that I'm trying my best to feel.
If they can integrate that so that it looks like the game you're playing, I think that would be an excellent addition that every Dev should adopt.
It's a little thing, but to me, I think it adds to the overall experience.
Conviction looks insanely fucking awesome.
Also, MELDING TIME!

I've always played the Splinter Cell games, but this one is going to outmatch all of them.
As for it being exclusive, I...highly doubt it, honestly. We'll see.
