Splinter Cell: Conviction special edition discounted photo

Ubisoft has announced that they'll be taking ten dollars off the price of the Splinter Cell: Conviction special edition package in North America, bringing its price down from $80 to $70. The decision was made when it was discovered that, in a random sampling of units, a number of the included USB drives failed to function.

Speaking to Gamespot, a representative from Ubisoft would not say what percentage of the drives are affected. They did state that the bonus materials intended to be on the drives, including concept art and a making-of documentary, would be made available for download this coming Thursday, April 15th.

A shame that some drives are defective, but good for Ubisoft for getting right out in front of this issue and doing something about it. USB thumb drives may be a dime a dozen and I know that this news wouldn't necessarily affect my decision to purchase, but when you promise a feature and can't deliver on it, this is the right thing to do.

Yep, good on Ubisoft for putting their hands up. Shit happens, it's only when companies try to pass the buck or try to save face in cheap ways that people get pissed off.

I will still never buy a limited edition anything though. Even if it contains Pokemon stickers and/or some sherbet

I got an email saying the my shadow edition's price got lowered to the normal edition, strange.
On another note. The special edition of alan wake is also being sold at the same price of the normal edition.

@watermanx

That is really how special editions should be, special merely because they are harder to find.

Give me a new case, booklet, and/or CD for the same price as normal to reward me for preordering, or going out at launch to pick it up.

Don't force me to pay more for a few pieces of unwanted content, or art books and figurines and crap.

Is it because they put their DRM on the drive?

Too bad if people get a defective thumb drive, they'll still be pissed off and demand a new one despite the discount they got.

You know what I don't understand? How some special/limited/promotional edition games are priced the same or even cheaper than the regular version.

May sound weird but this makes this game a buy for me. I was thinking about getting it but wasnt sure, but now for 10$ more I get a metal case, mp skins, art book, comic. Sounds good to me. It seems that all that was on the usb was pictures and short videos, eh. I can just reformat the jump drive, or worst case scenario, i can just stick another working drive in the cool case.

Maybe they should drop another $5 off it, considering it doesn't even have the comic book listed on the packaging either...

We got some in at the store I work at and opened one to see all the goodies inside (one of the copies a staff memeber pre-ordered) and it didn't have the comic book at all. A cursory glance at the other copies revealed the same...unless it's actually in the steelbook, it ain't in there at all.

@Glenn Morris it runs out so fast because your not using the special radiation exposed batteries.

on another note. Does anyone know if this affects Canadian pricing too?
