Splinter Cell: Conviction on PS3? 'There is always hope' photo

While the developers behind the PC- and Xbox 360-exclusive Splinter Cell: Conviction had previously made it clear that the game wouldn't be arriving on PlayStation 3 because A) it's traditionally a Microsoft platform game and B) another version would hurt production values, we can all just forget about that.

Well, that might be pushing it too far, but Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat told VideoGamer "there is always hope" for such a port to happen, while presumably winking ever so slightly before strapping himself into his gold-plated jetpack and sailing into the sunset.

Think about it -- how many Xbox 360 "exclusives" have later come to PS3 with more, often exclusive content? It doesn't seem out of the question to think that the same could be true of Conviction. If the game is half as good as it looks to be, this is one release all gamers are going to want to get their hands on.

So they said they may Do it on the PS3 than they said that they will not do it on the PS3 only to come back and say That they may make it on the PS3.

UBISOFT make up your mind already.

It must be a difficult decision, I mean sure in the US the 360 market is enough, but in Europe, you're ignoring like half of the console gamers, in Asia you're ignoring most of them!

It seems silly to not want PS3 users cash.

I personally don't like Splinter Cell, but this one does look very different from the "old school" Splinter Cell games.

I'll probably pick it up if it comes to PS3. if not, i'll live without it.

We all know that when an M$ based dev says "Exclusive" what they mean is "timed exclusive" - Shame that PS3 games don't work the same way, perhaps it's something to with the 360 not being able to handle them? What with the optional features of the 360 being integral to PS3 games.

What happened to the "Conviction uses AI mechanics that can't be done on the Cell processor" talk from 2 years ago? :)

Prof pew - There's nothing that can be done on the old PC chip ijn the failbox that can't be done on the cell.

Seeing as both the PS3 and 360 can handle CryEngine 3, I don't think we've seen the best out of either console yet.

Lawl loyalty.. Loyalty to a console is just restricting your entertainment.

Or protecting your wallet, depending how you look at it.

I could swear the HDDVD drive was a jumpy little sod when used on a 1080p television, it wouldn't surprise me if this blubox has similiar issues (making 1080i preferable).

At least, going by current trends, this will be released in black.

£50 for a Bluray drive for PC, I know what I prefer.

"A) it's traditionally a Microsoft platform game"

Except that every game in the series has come out on Playstation. I can see Conviction coming to PS3 but I don't really care about it anymore.

I don't know why they'd keep a previously multiplatform game exclusive. That's really just shooting yourself in the foot. And I love this quote:

"A) it's traditionally a Microsoft platform game"
Meanwhile Splinter Cell Essentials is a PSP exclusive...

I don't mind waiting a while for a better version on PS3. Usually they throw in some free dlc or something to make it worth it or they improve it like they did gaiden. Even if I had a 360 I'd probably wait it out. I think many people are catching on to the whole timed exclusive thing and people just don't care anymore.

You pirate games. You can't protect your wallet a little bit better than that, anyway.

The "traditionally" line gets me too, as all the previous entries have had shared releases. However, I'd be interested to see the numbers breakdown of units sold against the two platforms - that may have had a heavy hand in it, or maybe MS just wants to pay a shitload of money to keep it exclusive for a minute.

microsoft was a huge support for the franchise it should stay xbox only. as for me i would rather play it on pc that way i know it wont have issues at launch and if there is a patch will come faster

Didn't we get this same message about Mass Effect like the other day? And I hardly think that's going to switch.

@ Everyday Legend - "You pirate games. You can't protect your wallet a little bit better than that, anyway."

I pirated a game for a borrowed console, one borrowed DS one pirated game. I spend a huge amount of my income on gaming, but i'll not go out and buy a game for a console that i'm only borrowing for a week.

Show me somewhere that does rental DS games and I'll go rent it.

If anything my DS borrowing/pirating session has been nothing more than a good advert as i'm tempted by the DSi now, would have never considered it before.

I buy 2-3 games a month, usually brand new, and have a selection of consoles, all legit, no homebrew/pirating or anything. I have a PSP1000 with current Firmware FFS.

MW2 I may download, but only to seed, not to play, PS3's not so hot at pirating and my laptop won't run it for shit!

So uh, no I don't pirate games, music, sure, I've not bought a CD since the 90's, but games i buy plenty.

So uh, yeah. Just thought i needed to defend myself there.

hahaha, if they really didn't want to loose out on the ps3, they should stop taking the money they get from microsoft for making it an exclusive.

I thought MS had paid for this game's exclusivity? Maybe not.

Long as it comes to PC I am happy.

This is all preparation for the inevitable port of Halo 3. And then Mario.

Soon, even Sonic will be on PS3...oh wait, nevermind.

lol i searched every where and couldn't find the article it was here all along. "Ubisoft developers stated that being exclusive to the 360 allows them to do much more than if they were multiplatform, but they also state they doubt they would be able to achieve what they're doing with the game on the 360 on the ps3 even if it was ps3 exclusive."

http://www.destructoid.com/new-splinter-cell-conviction-scans-ubisoft-devs-crap-on-the-ps3-update--31376.phtml

times have changed and now everything is in reverse. at this point and time i think its hard to say what and what is exclusive. i mean come on assassins creed was originally ps3 exclusive so much for that, besides this series has shown up on sonys console in every installment. first game that interested me in the series and its exclusive... maybe im out of the loop but what current gen games/series are exclusive from ubisoft?
