Splinter Cell: Conviction demo out, what do you think? photo

The demo for Ubisoft's long-awaited Splinter Cell: Conviction has hit Xbox LIVE Marketplace today. It'll clocks in at a little over 1 gig, and for many this will be the first time they get their hands on this fresh take on the series.

So if you have an Xbox 360 and an Xbox LIVE Gold account, you should be downloading this now. Then let us know -- what do you think? Did it live up to expectations, and was the extra development time Ubisoft took with the title put to good use?

The game is out on April 13 for Xbox 360 and PC. That's right, the PC... no, there's no demo coming for the PC. Sorry folks.

I found it a little weird with the controls but when I get use to them, it will flow like a ninja.

Maybe now that the Demo's out, Sam will stop bugging me on Twitter to help find his daughter. Needy much?

I've played through it twice now, pretty impressive how unique the action is, this game is going to have a ton of replay with so many solutions to every situation. And did I mention it's wonderful graphics.

A fun demo that was let down by terrible performance problems.
Hope it isn't representative of the final product.

Did anybody else have the demo glitch out and spit them out the other side of an invisible wall?

I haven't played the demo (no Gold at the moment), but the lack of PC demo seems fitting given the nigh-contempt for PC users Ubi has been displaying lately. I very much want the game, but I feel like buying it for the 360 is still rewarding Ubi for their ridiculous PC DRM.

Please see the folly of your ways soon, Ubisoft. I want to play your games.

I didn't have any performance issue at all, felt very polished to me, hopefully just a demo glitch you ran into

Thats fine, Ubisoft. You just keep on hating the PC, and we'll hate right back atcha'.

If they were smart, they'd team up with Valve and Steam, so that piracy of their games becomes a lot harder. the small amount of money they would lose in deal, is nothing compared to the amount they're currently losing, pissing off the entire PC world with their DRM bullshit.

I loved that complex but still easy to use and very fluid gameplay.

pretty short demo for a gig, but I liked it... look forward to trying it again (and again) in different ways. Controls were a bit odd, but just fine once you get used to 'em

I thought it was really disappointing. You can run through the whole level just pressing B up close and killing everyone. It doesn't matter if you get spotted. Maybe I need more time with it but it feels like it wants to have the speed and stealth aspects of Arkham Asylum but it still felt slow and restrictive. I'll try it a couple more times I guess. Was I the only one who kept hitting X to reload and then used an item?

I captured one of my runs on youtube, if anyone's curious and unable to download the demo due to being a silver user or whatever you can check it out at:

No performance issues on my end, aside from one or two minor instances of screen-tearing.

The control scheme works well once you get used to it. I too kept trying to press X to reload, Capt. Hilarious, and clicking the left analog stick to crouch. Curse you R6: Vegas muscle memory! Kinda wish right bumper used gadgets, clicking left stick crouched, and X reloaded.

@C.Snarky,

Don't you ever just wish devs would let us re-map the controls however we want 'em? I don't understand why that isn't just SOP by now. :(

I hear ya. I don't understand why I can't choose my button layout. In some cases like Black, they didn't have a look sensitivity option because it was somehow tied into the way the physics system in the game operated. But that is obviously a lot different than letting me choose which button makes my character crouch.

From what I gather, it's Arkham Asylum with gun. And that is a very good thing. The "Mark and Execute" isn't as broken as I thought because I'm pretty sure there are gonna be situations where you have to make a big decision to save it or take everyone out manually. Tight controls, delicious projections.

OFFICIALLY DO WANT.
