Splinter Cell: Conviction delayed until 2008 photo

The latest installment in the Splinter Cell series, Splinter Cell: Convitction, has been pushed back until 2008. This might sound like horrible news at first, especially if you were really looking forward to the game, but it's not all that bad.

If you've seen the gameplay videos, you know how ambitious Conviction is. Being able to use every object on screen is cool, but wasting your time trying to figure out what can and cannot be picked up is definitely not something we want to happen. Thanks to the delay, Ubisoft will have more time to polish Conviction, resulting in a better overall game.

If that's not reason enough, let me remind you that this holiday season is already overcrowded with many must-play releases -- this is just one less you'll have to buy.

I felt as though the game needed a push back after E3.. The gameplay video was nice, but it was lagging something fierce. I would have been extremely dissapointed if it was released in that condition, or even just slightly better. I like my gameplay to be majority lag free.

The descriptions of this game make it sound ambitious and awesome. This results in:

A. A game that gets released before it is ready and lets everyone down
B. A game that is delayed repeatedly to get everything right

I prefer B.

I'm actually happy this was delayed. I want everything to be perfect. I'm a huge Splinter Cell fan and frankly, there's plenty of great games in the latter part of the year to keep me busy. Methinks Conviction will come right on time for when I'm done righting the Holiday wave.

After Double Agent, I want nothing to do with SC, damn that game was glitchy.

That's because Pandora was made by Ubisoft Shangai, also responsible for the 360 version of Double Agent, both games where total shit.

Chaos Theory and the Xbox version of Double agent where made Ubi Montreal and it shows.

It's a shame it's not coming out sooner, though I can wait.

Agreement with Kyousuke. Chaos Theory and the original Xbox Double Agent are the pinnacle of Splinter Cell awesomeness. Obviously I love the SC franchise A LOT. Good for me too to hear about the delay too as I have yet to get a 360. As long as Conviction turns out solid It'll probably have me getting one, provided MS has fixed all the issues.

Maybe if Ubisoft were to stop swapping studios, Splinter Cell would be more consistent. Shanghai and Montreal have totally different ideas on where Sam Fisher should take the franchise.

I'm actually really looking forward to this game, and I'm generally not a fan of stealth games. A delay isn't a bad thing. So long as it comes, baby. Just get it right.
