Splinter Cell: Conviction co-op details are coming photo

More videogame-related beans are being spilled in another magazine. According to CVG, the January issue of PC Zone magazine has the first shred of information about Splinter Cell: Conviction’s co-operative component as well as the first details on a lone “brand new mode” planned for the game.

This magazine hits on December 23rd. So, if you’re inclined to read something with actual pages and colorful pictures, go ahead and dig around for it in the magazine aisle later next month. Or don’t. It’s up to you now. Find our car and stop the New Order. And remember: music is the weapon.

I think Conviction is looking quite good. The magazine I'll skip out on and just wait for the scans to come out on the 24th.

I am someone who has never been interested in splinter cell, and Conviction is looking pretty awesome as of now.

I want to know more about the "mark and execute" thing... it honestly looks like a "play the game for me" button.

Probably the last thing I was expecting on Dtoid today was a Revolution X reference. Well played, sir.

Far from it. Mark and execute has to be earned, and it's more akin to bullet-time in Max Payne, for example. It's not like Fallout 3's VATS where you can stop every 10 seconds, remove some faces, then do it again. It's hard to explain how it works, but it works nicely.

Co-op...Hmm. Depending on how and where they implement it, it could be good. I'm certainly not a fan of any of Tom Clancy's tripe, but Conviction thus far has impressed me, so assuming Ubisoft don't screw it up between now and release, it's a certain purchase for me.

As long as it is optional I guess it doesn't matter, but earned or not it seems like it exists for the purpose of removing player control over an exciting moment. I don't need auto-pilot to get two quick headshots in a row, and I feel that awesome rush of doing something well when I pull it off.

It could be an analog-stick versus mouse thing, I dunno, but that's how I feel about it. Still, like I said, if it's optional then I guess there is no point complaining about it.

I hope they put the above scene in the game as a flashback or something. I've longed to see the down-and-out mess of a Sam.

This pic is bad. It's from the old ver. of game. Now it's totally different game.

I'm just worried that the whole game is going to be a series of mark-and-execute puzzles. Ex: you can mark 3 guys, there are 4 guys in the next room, you have to take out one of them at close range and then hit the execute button to kill the rest. Rinse and repeat.

The fact that you can't even move bodies any more means that stealth is taking a big back seat, which is worrisome for those of us who actually liked the whole "in-and-out without anyone ever knowing you were there" style of the earlier games (and real stealth games like Thief).

Now it's "kill everyone in the room, move to next room", like most every action game.

You know what's funny about Splinter Cell taking so long? Is that the PS3 is slowing down the production. Splinter Cell is the engine they use for a lot of their games, such as Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. Which is why you haven't seen a new reiteration of those two games yet. Since they have been spending so much time redoing the engine for this generation.

So most likely this isn't an exclusive in other words. I just have to say it's about time Ubisoft put in some time to get an engine right with PS3.
