There are alot of things in shooters that should kill you a lot more, a few stray rounds from a smg would kill somebody in real life, but won't drop a heavily armoured enemy after a clip. They are dwarfing sniper rifles to the advantage of everybody else, I think they are going about things the right way.
This reduces camping effectiveness and awards people for quick aiming.
Also they forgot to mention that grenades have a cool down timer so you can't just lob a metric tonne of grenades into a bottleneck and score easy kills.
I think its 1 nade every 20-30 seconds or something.
Man, this for fun, Socom for realz, Homefront for interesting setting, Killzone for brutal Melee and sharpshooter, Portal for puzzling, sure I've forgotten some too.
FPS season is upon us people! And so far it looks fucking awesome!
Ah, I see. Well as long as the weapons are balanced and there are rewards for both the inexperienced and skilled players, I'll be happy. The rest of the game features already look pretty awesome.
This looks interesting, but I definitely want to demo before I buy.
You could've easily remedied this by making weapons upgradeable.
Reading the sniper part kind of turned me off from the game, just a little.
In CoD, every sniper shot is crucial. Especially in Objective oriented games modes.
Seeing how Objective-oriented Brink is, that's very disappointing.
Camping snipers? WTF.
Snipers =/= Run and Gun.
I mean, I run and gun, but only with a Semi Automatic.
I really only consider it camping if you're near a spawn.
Anything else is fair game. but seriously, you can't really call Snipers campers.
Most of the time, I play CoD very tactically. Also, your wife obviously knows nothing about it since CoD = MW. Not separate things.
The easiest thing to do would be to have a beginners server. Kind of like MMOFPS's do. Then the Advanced server, then full on matchmaking.
It's seriously idiotic to dumb things down because people aren't good. Some people can't even use both thumbsticks, you don't see controllers that only require three buttons do you?
Seriously hoping for Custom Matches so I can ramp up the weapon damage a bit.
i must say, i wasn't interested in this game one bit, but reading the preview and this have really changed my mind, i want it nao !!
@B1ackTea: Right you are! I'll add that in, thanks.
@folks complaining about this: As I said, I played the game for an hour. At no point did I feel frustrated that enemies weren't dropping from my weapons. As Crawdads Revenge noted, it's somewhat similar to Halo -- you have to hit enemies a number of times in order to kill them, but it's not like you have to spend multiple clips or anything. It's not dumbed down; it's just different -- Brink encourages you to get in close, but as I mentioned, you can still be effective from afar.
I understand what you're saying, but actually if you ask Gooseman, the creator of CS, the AK was never supposed to kill in one shot like it does. The AK in CS headshots through armor, the m4 on the CT side can't do that, it disrupts the balance of the game.
Anyway, this game actually is tackling balance. So many recent FPS games have been absolute shit in the balance department, I think i'll give this one a go to hold me over until Battlefield 3.
I so cannot wait for this.
Oh really?!, I never knew that! Thanks for the lesson! ;) I allways thought the balance was good (not perfect), the m4a1 had better accurancy (right?) and a silencer. The ak was more for the vets.
Tackling the balance issue is good. Games as COD and the likes have had a more is better aproach wich screws the balance. I'm liking KZ3 right now, the balance is great between weapons and classes. (especially knowing it is still so short after release, and GG seems eager to tweak, refine and expand on the mp)
I think we have different interpretations of what camping means. To me, if a sniper hangs out in one spot a safe distance from the spawn point but still within shooting distance, armed with a sniper rifle capable of dropping an opponent in one hit, I'd call that camping (and poor level design).
By the way, some of these methods of addressing flaws with other shooters are actually reused from previous Wolfenstein or Enemy Territory games. If you didn't want to be revived in those games, then all that you had to do was tap out to go back into the reinforcement queue.
I'm hoping that headshots still enough excess damage to make them useful. I mean, it's not as though many weapons could one-shot kill an opponent in Wolfenstein or Enemy Territory games, and players who aim for the head should still have more damage output than players who aim for the bodies.
and to anyone who says QQ, why dont you go see what it takes for a real sniper to pull off your ingame half mile shot. lot harder then pulling up your rifle and looking through the scope.
But...
Sniper dominance just ruins the fun for everyone else. I remember some great FPSs that were utterly ruined when the opposing team had one or two great snipers. Original Day of Defeat had a few maps that could just be shut down by one great sniper. The best maps were the ones that allowed for multiple routes and close in fighting. DoD:S tried to combat this a bit with the addition of smoke nades and long range rifle grenades, but it also had other problems.
Sniper deaths are one of the most frustrating things in a FPS because it often feels like there was no way to avoid or fight back against it. Often this is really more the fault of bad map design not offering enough alternative routes to take and forcing players into sniper alleys.
As always, TF2 does a good job of both skill indexing the sniper (he can whip out high damage headshots if the player is good, but body shots are unrewarding without a lengthly charge period that makes his killing power very time intensive) while often providing alternative routes or class counters to the Sniper (Spies and Scouts FTW!) Its a pretty good design and it sounds like Splash Damage is taking some of those ideas. I'll be interested to see how it shakes out!
That's what I hear when I hear people bitch about revives...obviously excepting those circumstances where you are getting revived directly in a line of fire.
