Normally I'm upset with the VGA GOTY winner. This year, not so. In fact, with the exception of Uncharted 3, every one of those nominees could have won and I would be totally ok with it.
Granted that still doesn't excuse the fact that the only redeeming factors of the show were the trailers and Miyamoto showing, but still.

I have a question. How can a game that doesn't win "___(Console)___ Game of the Year" win the overall "Game of the Year" Award? Shouldn't "Game of the Year" be chosen from the games that won "___(Console)___ Game of the Year?"
Skyrim can easily be argued to be worthy of winning the VGA for Game of the Year, but extremely disappointed that Todd Howard and crew were the ONLY winners to NOT thank the fans at all.
I know GT would never snub their noses at the industry by leaving Uncharted out in favor of Deus Ex, but they really should have. Why was Uncharted in the running, exactly? I played it for a few hours, and decided I couldn't stand playing something that is so heavily scripted and practically on-rails for any longer than that. Seriously, Overhyped of the Year, IMHO.
Skyrim lost my GotY vote earlier today when it cut me off from completing the Companions questline. And then I was almost cut off from the Dark Brotherhood quests because of Cicero (piece of shit), but I fixed that. I love the game with all my heart, but like an abusive boyfriend, the time comes when you have to understand that no matter how much you love it, you can't accept all their flaws. And since I bought it on PS3, there's a helluva lot of flaws. Portal 2 got my vote.
A couple of weeks ago, I would have agreed with this. Its a great game but its became almost unplayable for me. After 20 mins of gameplay it crashes, and I have to turn off the PS3. Every single time.
So a busted ass glitch fest won GOTY? Yep that's the VGA's we all know and love ;)
Don't get me wrong, When or if it's fixed Skyrim will be incredible,but any one of those other games should have beaten Skyrim just for the simple fact that they are all incredible without game breaking glitches.

first i played deus ex i decided to be my game of the year but then i played uncharted after which it became my game of the year but then i played skyrim and there was no doubt in my mind that it was game of the year for me but lastly i played rayman.. nah im kidding its good though
Most of the bugs/performance issues in Skyrim show up after 50+ hours of gameplay as the save file gets too big. Most reviewers didn't play that long so got a skewed perspective. That said, I think it is at least PC game of the year. It might crash on shitty computers, but my PC is 3 years old and runs it amazingly on ultra, so fuck the haters.
it is hard to believe that skyrim has been out for exactly 1 month and so many people chose it as their game of the year, it just goes to show how good it is. i wonder what would have happened if SOWTR came out earlier this year
I love how Portal 2 took five awards home prior to the GOTY award, while Skyrim took none and yet Portal 2 still got ruled out by Skyrim. What the fuck is up with that?

Sadly no matter how much I voted for Ghost Trick in the handheld section, it didn't cause a rift in time and have it win GOTY instead.

Absolutely ecstatic that Bastion won best score and best song. Seriously the soundtrack is freaking amazing, almost to a legendary degree. Sure others have had more emotional scores, but none with the consistency from start to finish. Also glad to see it won best downloadable game.

Wow. There's a lot of people here acting like children because the world doesn't reflect their opinion, and because they think that their personal issues with a game are completely global. Almost 300 hours into and 650 saves into Skyrim on PC I've seen two crashes, and my girlfriend who plays the same file due to her inability to get past character creation has seen three, two of which were caused by her meddling with the console. The kicker? I'm not running one of those "$5000 computers that you have to upgrade every month" (Because those exist, right?)

Even though the VGA's are a complete joke, no amount of bitching and complaining is going to change the fact that Skyrim is a game that took talent and effort to develop, and no amount of immature bullshit is going to change the fact that Bethesda went against the trend and worked to give us a large and ambitious game. I suppose some people are too busy offering up immature and vulgar jeers to realize that a bug testing a game that huge is not as easy as bug testing your average 20 hour or less game.
It's not your cup of tea. So get over it, and move on. Whether you personally like or not, tons of other people really did, and a lot of people worked really hard to make that happen.

So I really don't care that it won game of the year, but I have to ask, why didn't it win a single best of console award? It didn't win PC, XBox 360 nor PS3, yet it's somehow better than those games that did? It's like when Arcade Fire won album of the year, while at the same time losing best alternative album to the Black Keys.
