Here we have the launch trailer for Spider-Man: Web of Shadows and … whoa whoa whoa! What’s up with the emo-ness in this trailer? Oh man, it’s like I’m watching Spider-Man 3 again. Oh God, not again!!!

Sure, the trailer is a bit melodramatic, but it really sets the mood for the game. Heroes and villains alike get infected with the Symbiote and it’s Peter Parker against all these odds, more or less by himself. Not to mention that he has to keep his own Symbiote in check too.

I have high hopes that this will finally be a Spider-Man game Spider-Man fans have been waiting for, especially after reading Dale’s preview of the current-gen and Nintendo DS versions of the game. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows comes out October 21 for pretty much every platform that still matters.

Also, so long as there’s no random retarded dancing-on-the-streets-and-freaking-out-women scene in the game, I’ll be happy. Are you looking forward to the game?

Well I do agree that this trailers emo'ish idea is kinda wack, but just watching the gameplay, monsters, and dynamics actually got me interested. Seriously, when was the last time you had some sort of excitement for a Spiderman game?

and wow... Venom-Wolverine!? wow. I never understood how spiderboy could take on Wolverine... one slice and its all over.

Venom is starting to be like Final Fantasy VII now, too much damn fan service.

It was something that you loved when you first saw it, but the fans took it and made it bad for the original fans. Venom was just a "here and there villain", now you see that shit everywhere.

Still excited for it though.

Dammit! It looks pretty good, and @ ZeeJayTL

Did you know that the Silver Surfer once fused with the Carnage Symbiote to become "The Cosmic Carnage"?

That huge mass of symbiote at the end of the trailer has my interest piqued.

It's not much emo really. This is what is in the comics. That's just Spiderman dealing with his experiences with the venom symbiote and it all comes to a head here. I mean don't view it with labels like, "Emo" and everything like that. Think of it as what it is, a story. A story has characters that deal with the conflict presented to them as best they can. Not Emo. XD

@RAB

That WAS Wolverine merged with a symbiote.

This whole game looks sweet. Especially that part with the giant symbiote.

ANd I agree with Gun Gr4ve, I found no emo there. He wasn't being a whiny little bitch about stuff.

The whole emo concept eludes me. I have no idea what people mean when they say it anymore. What the writhing, twitching bollocks does it fucking well mean, and why is it used as a global criticism for damn near anything?

This trailer looked okay to me. The first 10 seconds were a bit dismal but the serious tone overall didn't bother me in the way it seems to give some people the rage to ball up their fists and shiver with pure rage.

Well Peter always had problems anyway. He was never a perfect superhero, so when he sees his city in a lot more distress than what he's used to, he has to fight an unnecessary battle.

The juxtapositioning of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata with slowmotion mayhem reminds me of levels from RtCW where the guard towers would have radios playing during bombings and urban warfare.

This game is looking fucking awesome...
but I still have others to get.

LittleBigPlanet
Fable 2
Gears of War 2
BK: Nuts and Bolts
Prince of Persia

God damn, there's not way I can play all these games.

The third game broke my heart and left me remembering what a great game the second one was.
I am thankful that Shaba has evolved combat to more than ground-based, but if it turns out I can't carry an enemy with me to the top of the Empire State Building and pile-drive him into the concrete like in SM2, then I'm not interested.

"Emo" is the new strawman for what is basic homophobia. In the earlier part of this decade, it was aimed at "etrosexuals". In the 90s, it was all about the "goth" label.

It would seem that any individual who strays from the mental-model of what men should, and shouldn't be, threatens some folks' sense of sexual identity.

Using labels like "emo" is a more subtle (and subconscious) way for the moderately-socialized-male-gamer to engage in homophobia, while being able to rationalize that he's nothing like the poorly-socialized guy who still calls people "fag" over Live.

it's like having your cake and eating it, too. Think about it.

That's an acceptable sort of emoness. Very Gears of War/"Mad World". Looks interesting, but I'm still stinging from the burn of past mediocre Spiderman/superhero games.

You know it's weird. couple of years back a monologue like that would've been called "dark and gritty" and be praised. now it's called "emo" and people make fun of it.

Possible Spoiler here:

Could this have anything to do with the "Venom Bomb" Dr. Doom threw at Manhattan in the pages of Mighty Avengers earlier this year?

Anyway..Do Want but..not too much

Seriously, I'm getting sick of anything that shows any sign of negative emotion being called "emo" Emo refers to a type of music and the followers of it who are usually, though not always, over-dramatic teens (which I find funny, since every teen is pretty much over-dramatic in one way or another). Somehow this label has moved to include any sort of negativity as being emo. I think the game looks great and I really like the look of the trailer; Spider-man is pretty conflicted character and has the right to be so negative --- look at what he's facing! I'd see symbiote Wolverine and piss off.

Do people even understand what emo means anymore?

Besides, the difference between that trailer and that movie is that the trailer looked amazing and Spider-Man has a reason to feel conflicted, the movie was just total shit.

No. Emo has turned into the universal word for anything that involves sadness or emotion. It has nothing to do with the music. It's the new "gay" and I'm really getting tired of it.

Anywho. I'm excited.

I thought "gay" meant "gay". Emo is nothing more than a shitty genre of music to me.

Spider-Man has always been one of the more outwardly emotional superheroes on Marvel's roster so this kind of monologue really doesn't bother me at all. I just hope the game holds up to all the rave previews it's been getting so far.
